Science Weapons are special weapons that you can discover by completing the Void Weapons side quest in The Outer Worlds.
Each scientific weapon has a unique skill, which becomes stronger if you invest points in the scientific skill.
The Gloop Gun can make your enemies float in the sky, while the Prismatic Hammer can hit multiple targets at once and the Shrink Ray can shrink enemies.

What are scientific weapons in The Outer Worlds?
Science Weapons are special weapons with unique abilities that can be found throughout The Outer Worlds galaxy during the Void Weapons side quest. The Mandibular Reorderer, for example, slows enemies every time it hits them.
The duration and damage dealt by these special attacks depend on your science level.
If you have a high science level, the special effects of these weapons will last longer and deal more damage. However, if you have a low science level, science weapons will be less effective.
This means you need to invest a lot of skill points into both the tech skill set and science skill to unlock the full potential of science weapons.
While science weapons exist in their own weapon category, each also belongs to a primary weapon category. The Shrink Ray, for example, is classified as a pistol, while the Mind Control Ray is a long weapon.
You can make science weapon trinkets to improve weapon stats or split them into weapon parts, but you cannot modify a science weapon.
With the exception of the Mandibular Reorderer and the Prismatic Hammer, which are melee weapons, all Scientific Weapons use Energy Cells as ammunition.
There are five science weapons in total in The Outer World:
- balloon gun
- Mandibular rearranger
- Mind control ray
- Prismatic hammer
- shrink ray
How to find scientific weapons in The Outer Worlds
All five science weapons can be found by completing the Void Weapons side quest.
This side quest is available after you have completed Stranger in a Strange Land. You can start it by reading the logs on the computer terminal in Captain The Unreliable’s room.
To fully complete this quest, you must have at least started the Radio Free Monarch story quest, which allows you to travel to the planet Monarch.
You must also have started or finished the Salvager in the Sky and Space-Crime Continuum faction missions for Sublight Salvage & Shipping.
If you want the Gloop Gun, you must have started or completed the story mission, Radio Free Monarch.
Gloop Gun in The Outer Worlds explained
The Gloop Gun is categorized as a heavy weapon and is found in the UDL laboratory, northwest of Fallbrook in Monarch during Weapons From the Void. You will be able to find the Gloop Gun once you have completed the story mission, Passage to Anywhere.
Causes shock damage.
Gloop Gun Special Ability:
The Gloop Gun fires a large mass of blue substance that, if it hits an enemy, will send them into the sky.
Being hit by the Gloop Gun will also shock and weaken the enemy for a short period of time.
If you increase your science level, enemies will remain weaker for a longer period of time.
The Gloop Gun is ideal for attacking groups of enemies, because its gloop can affect multiple enemies. This means you can temporarily disarm several enemies by making them take a short flight through the air, allowing you to quickly kill those left standing.

Mandibular rearranger in The Outer Worlds
The Mandibular Reorganizer is a one-handed melee weapon that can be found on Scyll during Weapons of the Void. You will be able to find the Mandibular Rearranger once you have completed Stranger in a Strange Land.
Mandibular Reorderer Special Ability:
Using the Mandibular Rearranger will slow your enemies, and if used on a target for an extended period, will freeze them for a slow period of time.
By investing in your science skill, you will be able to freeze enemies for a longer period of time.
This is a great weapon to use when sneak attacking enemies, because it increases your advantage by preventing them from counterattacking.

Mind control ray in The Outer Worlds
The Mind Control Ray is a long weapon and can be found in the Rizzo Secret Laboratory in Weapons From the Void. To enter this lab, you must have completed the Passage to Anywhere story mission and started the Sublight Salvage & Shipping faction mission, Space-Crime Continuum.
Mind Control Ray Special Ability:
Holding down the attack button while using the Mind Control Beam creates a continuous beam of energy, dominating the target enemy’s mind and causing them to attack their allies.
Increasing your scientific level will improve both the movement speed and attack rate of enemies affected by the mind control beam.
This weapon is best used when traveling with companions or when facing only two enemies at a time. Either way, it allows you to pit your enemies against each other, keeping you alive, while they kill each other.

Prismatic hammer in The Outer Worlds
The Prismatic Hammer is a 2-handed melee weapon and is found on the Groundbreaker in Weapons From the Void. You only need to have completed Stranger in a Strange Land to find this weapon.
The prismatic hammer deals physical damage.
Prismatic Hammer Special Ability:
The Prismatic Hammer has two different types of attacks, although you must have a high scientific level to use them.
The first type of attack is a sweeping attack, which has the ability to damage multiple enemies. The second is a power attack and involves bursts of energy from the hammer, knocking your enemies backwards.
This hammer is fantastic, not only because it is a hammer, but because it can easily attack multiple targets at once. This means that if you ever feel like you’re being overwhelmed by multiple enemies, you can simply pull out this hammer and create a path to freedom.

The Outer Worlds begins on Terra-2, where you can complete the mission The Frightened Engineer and decide whether to divert power to Edgewater or the Botanical Laboratory. Once you’ve fixed The Unreliable, you can complete Weapons From the Void to unlock the scientific weapons.
You can join The Unreliable with a group of companions and also manage your reputation with various factions. Finally, if you’re ready for spoilers, we have a guide to the different endings.
Shrink Ray in The Outer Worlds
The Shrink Ray falls into the pistol category and is found in Phineas’ laboratory in Weapons From the Void, which is unlocked after completing Stranger in a Strange Land.
The Shrink Ray deals plasma damage.
Reduction Ray Special Skill:
Holding down the attack button while using Shrink Ray creates a continuous beam of energy that will literally shrink your enemies.
Reduced targets have their armor stats reduced and will deal lower amounts of damage.
Moving the beam away from the target will allow them to return to their original size.
Increasing your science level will allow you to shrink enemies to an even slower size.
The Shrink Ray is a great weapon to use while traveling with companions, because you can focus on shrinking particular enemies, lowering their stats, and allowing your crew to kill them easily.
