MultiVersus tier list ranking: Who are the best fighters in MultiVersus?

MultiVersus is a fighter with a roster drawn from all types of Warner Bros. franchises.

With MultiVersus Season 2 already underway, fans want to know where each character ranks in terms of tier rankings.

As the dust settles from the latest patch and with the arrival of Marvin the Martian as the latest DLC character, a new meta is starting to emerge.

MultiVersus is still taking shape as a fighting game, but there’s certainly enough to go on now in terms of Season 2 fighter rankings. As such, we’ve put together our own MultiVersus tier list. This ranks all the fighters currently in the game and provides context for how we decide each category.

The MultiVersus beta will close on Sunday, June 25, 2023 until the game is ready for full release. For more information, please visit our MultiVersus beta closing page.

MultiVersus Tier List

We’ve ranked all MultiVersus fighters into a single list, based on their strengths, weaknesses, attack options, recovery, and overall attack power. It is worth noting that MultiVersus is still in a very early stage of its meta-development. As players and pros spend more time with it and as new adjustments are made in the form of patches, this list will likely change a bit.

MultiVersus is a very exciting place, where all characters feel viable in team play. Some fighters, like Jake the Dog, received nerfs in the latest patch, while other fighters like Gizmo have been improved.

How We Decided On Our MultiVersus Tier List In Season 2

With the arrival of the latest Season 2.2 patch in MultiVersus, we’ve made some updates to our tier list. Most of the characters on the list underwent changes: some suffered major nerfs, others were significantly buffed, and others suffered minor balance adjustments. Marvin the Martian from Looney Tunes was also added, and while players are definitely still getting to grips with him, we’re confident in his placement for now.

Here are the MultiVersus tier list changes after Stripe in Season 2 at a glance:

  • Black Adam: went from “Strong” to “Good.”
  • Marvin: Added to “Average”.
  • Jake the Dog: went from “Average” to “Weak.”

We have moved some characters based on these recent changes. In terms of benefits, Gizmo and Garnet were the clear winners, but their benefits were not enough for any level changes at this time.

Meanwhile, Black Adam and Jake the Dog received nerfs. Some changes seem to have been more detrimental than others, particularly those of Jake the Dog, whose air attacks have been nerfed across the board. As a result, this time both of them have dropped a level.

Marvin has now arrived at MultiVersus and is already proving to be a really fun wrestler. Unfortunately, they can be extremely difficult to learn and don’t seem to be up to the fight in their current form. As a result, we will place them at the “Average” level until they are slightly improved.

Something that has been included in our tier list are the results of the EVO 2022 Multiversus tournament that was held in August. This was a great event that allowed us to see how the pro players handled the MultiVersus roster. Bugs and Velma were the big favorites here, and we’ve used some results from these matchups to inform our decisions.

Who are the best fighters in MultiVersus?

Let’s review the fighters at our “best” level. As we mentioned above, Velma absolutely dominated EVO 2022 and is still top-notch in our experience.

Velma is a great support, capable of reducing equipment cooldowns. It’s worth noting that while Velma has received major nerfs in Season 1 so far, she’s still an absolutely great character to play.

Also in the ‘Best’ tier are Wonder Woman and Finn. Finn just hits like an absolute truck and has great hitboxes and kill options.

Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman received some nerfs in the most recent patch, particularly her special, but she’s still a great fighter. Choose any of these three characters and you will dominate in MultiVersus; all of them are also relatively easy to learn.

Ultimately, we recommend using our tier list as a starting point for trying out new characters. There are also a lot of great analyzes done by professional players after EVO, and while not all of them are great for more casual players, they can be extremely interesting and give insight into why certain characters currently dominate the meta.

On the one hand, Super Smash Bros. pro Nakat’s tier list is very interesting, and while it differs from ours, you’ll learn a lot about how the roster performed at EVO 2022 as a whole. You can see it below:

Another great watch is from streamer Lilsun, who put together a video on the MultiVersus tier list based solely on competitive results. You can see it below:

Like any fighting game, MultiVersus will receive new fighters and meta changes as it progresses. This means that our tier list will also update and change depending on which characters have been nerfed and which have been buffed. Stay tuned for changes to the meta and this tier list in the future.

Best assassin in MultiVersus

The best assassin character in MultiVersus is Finn the Human. Assassins specialize in dealing damage while moving quickly.

Finn the human.

Agility is key here, and Finn has a lot of options in that regard. Side Special can be used to move while blocking projectiles, and if your special is charged, you can throw gems that can essentially be used to teleport.

The reason Finn is the first of his kind is because of his ability to deal massive damage. Damaging enemies will cause them to drop gold, which is used to upgrade specials.

They can also be spent using special down. There are three options in this menu that appears. The first increases speed while another grants a projectile shield while charging. The third option is to bring BMO into battle, allowing players to deal additional damage.

Finn has many great options for dealing damage, as well as a high-five move that can deflect projectiles. Finn’s main weakness is his lack of ranged attacks, but with this reflection ability, he can send projectiles at the enemy.

Of all the Assassin fighters, Finn is our pick for the best currently.

Best bully in MultiVersus

Woolly.

Bullies are dedicated to dealing damage and are capable of hitting hard in a variety of scenarios. Shaggy is now our pick here, after a strong nerf to Batman.

Shaggy is a really easy fighter to learn, capable of dealing massive damage after charging attacks.

He also has a projectile, which still hits very hard after recent changes to the projectile attack meta.

In general, you’ll want to use the sandwich whenever you can, as you can also purchase it as a health item for your teammates.

Best magician in MultiVersus

Mages are quickly becoming one of the clear winners in terms of class in MultiVersus. This is because, in its current state, MultiVersus is heavily weighted towards fighters who can deal ranged damage.

Bugs Bunny.

Bugs Bunny is the best wizard in our opinion, even after the recent post-Gizmo patch nerfs.

There’s really nothing Bugs doesn’t have up his sleeve, from traps to falling projectiles and even specials that can be used to buff his teammates.

Bugs has already been nerfed a couple of times, but it’s clear that he’s still somewhat overmatched in the current meta.

Watching pro players use Bugs Bunny is a real treat, especially the Bunny Burrow tactic that leaves re-accessible tunnels around the map.

When combined with certain buffs, simply using tunnels will seriously buff your team.

Better support in MultiVersus

Support fighters are currently the most complicated classes in MultiVersus. Velma is the simplest and can particularly be used effectively in 1v1 matches.

Velma.

Velma was the featured fighter at EVO 2022, and players used her support moves to constantly buff the team and cause problems for opponents.

Playing as Velma involves applying various passive effects to both allies and enemies. One particularly interesting mechanic is the research system. As Velma fights, evidence will appear after certain attacks.

Collect enough of this and you can summon a police car to stun the enemy of your choice.

This leads to so many combos and kill options that it’s easy to see why Velma is currently in the ‘Strong’ tier of our list.

Best tank in MultiVersus

Finally, let’s take a look at the best tank fighter in MultiVersus. This is Wonder Woman, now that the Season 1 patches have gone into effect.

Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman has always had amazing potential since the first network test on MultiVersus. However, there were a couple of things that kept him from jumping to the “Best” level. Fortunately, recent improvements have really improved things.

There is a problem here, and that is that, as of this writing, there is a bug that causes Wonder Woman to take damage when using one of her specials. This will likely be fixed in an upcoming update.

Wonder Woman is a very solid Tank character, capable of absorbing tons of damage while getting in close for powerful attacks. Her Lasso now is a great option for drawing enemies towards her, and the special above her deals huge damage and is very easy to hit.

Finally, Wonder Woman’s Down Special can be used to remove any debuffs from an ally. This is very useful when facing Velma or Bugs.

There you have it, our MultiVersus tier list. Now that you’ve seen what the best fighters in the game are, head over to our best MultiVersus fighters for beginners to get started with the game.
