How to get primary energy in Pokémon Go

Primal Energy is the key to obtaining Primal Groudon or Primal Kyogre in Pokémon Go and this special energy can be collected using two different methods.

The first is to defeat Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre in Primal Raids. The faster you defeat them, the more Primal Energy you’ll receive, so make sure you know the counters and weaknesses of Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre.

However, you don’t have to successfully catch Groudon or Kyogre to earn Primal Energy, so don’t worry if the legendary escapes your clutches.

You can also earn Primal Energy by progressing through the Chasing Legends special research quest. However, the primary energy you gain depends on the equipment you have selected: Ruby or Sapphire.

Finally, once you have registered a Primal Form in your Pokédex, you will receive 100 Primal Energy in total for every 20 km you walk with this Pokémon on a regular or normal basis as a companion.

When it comes to collecting Primal Energy, we recommend focusing on completing Primal Raids. Since this will also help you complete the Chasing Legends quest, you will still be able to earn the additional primary energy this quest gives you.

Once the Go Tour: Hoenn event ends, having Groudon or Kyogre as a friend will be the only way to earn Primal Energy until Primal Raids return. However, don’t forget that you must have a Pokémon’s Primal Form registered in your Pokédex to gain Primal Energy by having it as your friend.

It is important to note that Groudon and Kyogre do not share the same Primordial Energy. This means that if you need Primal Energy for Groudon, you can’t get it by defeating Primal Kyogre in Primal Raids. Instead, you’ll have to fight Primal Groudon to gain the energy you need.

Unlike Candy, the amount of Primal Energy you can conserve is capped at 9999. Keep this in mind if you somehow gather 9998 Primal Energy for one of the legendaries!

Primary raids in Pokémon Go explained

Primal Raids are a new raid type that was first introduced to a limited number of players during the Pokémon Go Tour: Hoenn Las Vegas event and then released worldwide during the Go Tour: Hoenn Global event.

In these raids you’ll face either Primal Groudon or Primal Kyogre, older versions of the Gen 3 legendaries. Both Pokémon will be incredibly powerful, so make sure your team is built to take advantage of Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre’s counterattacks and weaknesses.

Primal Raids has a different colored egg compared to other raids.

Successfully completing one of these raids will reward you with a certain amount of Primordial Energy based on the time it took you to defeat the raid boss, as explained in the previous section, along with an encounter with Groudon or Kyogre in their traditional forms.

As of this writing, Primal Raids have only been available during the Go Tour: Hoenn events. However, this doesn’t mean we won’t see them return in the future.

The Season of Adventure Abundance is here! Its first event is A Paldean Adventure, which sees the true launch of Gen 9 and the special research mission A Paldean Adventure. You can also work on the Timed Investigation: Master Ball mission and compete in Go Battle League. Be sure to compete in Shadow Raids, complete routes, use Daily Adventure Incense for a chance to encounter Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres. This incense can also give you encounters with other rare Pokémon in Pokémon Go.

Primary Reversal Explained in Pokémon Go

Primal Reversion is the term used to describe the transformation of a Pokémon into its primary form in the Pokémon series.

As of this writing, Groudon and Kyogre are the only Pokémon that currently have primary forms. It’s unlikely we’ll see any more Primal forms introduced in the main series, as the mechanic was removed when Pokémon Sword and Shield were released.

In Pokémon Go, Primal Reversion works similarly to Mega Evolution; You have to collect a certain amount of Primordial Energy to perform the reversal and then it will last for eight hours. During this time, you will receive a number of bonuses depending on whether you have reverted to Groudon or Kyogre.

You can also use the Primal Pokémon in Raid Battles, Gym Battles, Team Go Rocket Battles, Team Leader Battles, and Trainer Battles. However, Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre cannot be boosted, traded, defended gyms, or used in Go Battle League battles outside of events.

Primal Reversion can be performed while waiting in raid rooms and when preparing for a Trainer battle.
