Pokémon Go Mega Pidgeot counters, weaknesses and moveset explained

Mega Pidgeot is one of the first Mega Evolutions introduced in Pokémon Go.

Unlocked by players competing in over two million Mega Raids, defeating Mega Pidgeot in a Mega Raid allows you to collect its special Mega Energy. Once you’ve collected enough Mega Energy, you can evolve Pidgeot into its Mega form.

Before doing this, however, it’s a good idea to know Pidgeot’s weaknesses and counterattacks, so you can fight him effectively, whether in person or in a remote raid.

In this page:

Cons and weaknesses of Mega Pidgeot in Pokémon Go

If you want to gain some Mega Energy for Pidgeot, you’ll first need to know what counters and weaknesses will help you defeat him:

  • Mega Pidgeot Type: Normal and Flying Type
  • Mega Pidgeot is weak against Zapdos, Tyranitar, Raikou, Glaceon, Mamoswine, Weavile, Electivire, Rampardos, and Terrakion.
  • Mega Pidgeot Counters: Electric, Ice, and Rock-type Pokémon
  • Other notes on Mega Pidgeot: Electric-type Pokémon are the way to go when it comes to fighting Mega Pidgeot, as their moves will be very effective against its flying-type nature.

Everything we know about Pidgeot

Pidgeot is the final evolution in Gen 1’s Pidgey evolution tree and helped start the tradition of each Pokémon generation having a bird-inspired three-stage evolution chain.

Despite what Pidgeot’s name suggests, it looks much more like a bird of prey, especially a hawk, than a dove. This connection intensifies when you realize that the black marks around Pidgeot’s eyes are similar to the marks that often appear in depictions of the Egyptian gods, Ra and Horus. Both gods were often represented with the head of a falcon.

Pidgeot’s Mega Evolution was introduced in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire and, unlike some Mega Evolutions, it does not alter Pidgeot’s type.

Pidgey, Pidgeotto, and Pidgeot are all part of the same evolution tree.

Finally, Pidgeot plans a role in the first series of the Pokémon anime series, as Pidgeotto is the second Pokémon Ash captures.

It would later evolve in the episode ‘Pallet Party Panic’ in an effort to protect Ash from the Fearow, which he threw a rock at when he was a Spearow in the first episode of the anime. The episode ends with Ash setting Pidgeot free, so he can stay with a flock of Pidgey and Pidgeotto, with the promise that he will one day return for it.

Ash has yet to fulfill this promise.
