The weather plays an important role in your Wild Area adventures in Pokémon Sword and Shield.
Unlike routes and cities, which have a set weather, the weather at each Wilderness Area location changes daily. This means it could be snowing in the Dusty Bowl today, but raining tomorrow.
It is possible to change the weather in Pokémon Sword and Shield, allowing you to catch weather-specific Pokémon and experience special battle conditions.

What types of weather exist in Pokémon Sword and Shield?
There are nine different types of weather you can experience in Pokémon Sword and Shield. Each will change the appearance of the Wild Area, and possibly also change the battlefield and make different Pokémon appear.
As you progress through the game, you will also unlock additional weather types, allowing you to catch new Pokémon.

These are the weather types that are available from the beginning of Pokémon Sword and Shield:
- intense sunlight
- Cloudy
- Normal weather (sunny)
- Raining
- snowing
- Storm
After defeating the first three gyms, you unlock two additional weather types:
Once you become the Champion of the Galar region, you will also unlock the mist.
The weather icons: normal weather (sunny), cloudy, raining, thunderstorm, snowing, blizzard, strong sunlight, sandstorm and fog.
Battle weather conditions affect Pokémon Sword and Shield
Certain types of weather will alter the conditions of a Pokémon battle in the Wild Area, as well as the Pokémon you encounter.

Your Pokémon will only be affected by a weather battle condition if it is fighting in an area that is currently being affected by that specific type of weather or if a Pokémon uses a move or ability that changes the weather condition. However, these moves and abilities will not change the weather outside of battle.
Typically, weather conditions last for five turns of a battle, but you can obtain specific items, such as Heat Rock, which will extend these conditions to eight turns.
These are the four different types of weather that can affect your Pokémon in battle:

Certain Pokémon abilities also activate based on different weather conditions. These skills are:

Weather Locked Days in Pokémon Sword and Shield Explained
Blocked weather days refer to the first day of each month when the Wilderness Area will be covered by a single type of weather effect.
The only expectation is January 1st, which begins the new year as usual with a variety of different weather types.
The blocked weather days and their associated weather are:

If you want to take advantage of these days, whether to capture a specific Pokémon or simply for aesthetic reasons, then all you have to do is change the date on your Nintendo Switch.
To do this, go to the System Settings of your Nintendo Switch. From there, scroll down to the System option and select the Date & Time option.
Next you’ll want to turn off Sync Clock over the Internet. This will allow you to manually change the date or time to whatever you want, effectively becoming the weather god of the Galar region.
Make sure “Sync clock over the Internet” is disabled.
Finally, all you have to do is change the date to the locked weather day you want, exit System Settings, and start playing Pokémon Sword or Shield.
Now you can change the date to whatever you want.

How to check the weather in the Wild Area in Pokémon Sword and Shield explained
There are a couple of different methods you can use to check the weather in the Wild Area in Pokémon Sword and Shield.
The first is to simply visit the Wild Area and walk around; You will quickly realize the weather you are experiencing.
The second way is to open the city map from the X menu.
Select the city map to get a weather forecast in the wild area.
Once this map is open, press the + button to display the weather for each Wild Area route and location.
You can also do something very similar with the Pokédex.
Simply select the habitat map for any Pokémon within the Pokémon and then once the map is open, press + to turn the weather on and off. You can also access Flying Taxi from this map, allowing you to quickly get to the location and weather that’s right for you.
