Pokémon Go’s Great League Remix, first introduced in Season 7, is a remake of the season’s staple: the Great League.
Great League Remix also features a 1500 CP cap and has one key difference: a list of banned Pokémon that you can’t use on your team.
This banned list is made up of the most popular Pokémon used in the Great League, so for many players it will force you to dig deeper into your collection to find some hidden gems.

List of banned Pokémon from Pokémon Go Great League Remix
The difference between the regular version of Great League and the Remix version is a list of banned Pokémon. These are based on the most popular creatures appearing in the Big League, forcing trainers to try something else on their teams. This list changed at the start of Go Battle League Season 8, removing some Pokémon, such as Alolan Raichu, and adding others.

For those familiar with the Big League, you’ll recognize some of the creatures mentioned above, and they may eliminate most of their tried and trusted lineup. Venusaur, Azumarill, Skarmory, Swampert… all heavyweights who have dominated the Great League since their arrival.
There are other interesting ones on the list above, such as Talonflame; perhaps March’s Community Day pushed it up the list, especially as a cheap and cheerful competitor to the steel guys. Either way, alternatives are now needed when it comes to the Remix League.
What are some alternative recommendations for Great League Remix?
Since the list above eliminates many favorites, it’s time to dig into our collections for other creatures that perform well within the same 1500 CP limit.
As with any Go Battle League, recommendations are not based solely on power: they must also react to the meta, which is often formed around certain types that work well against other creatures.
At the time of writing (the start of Great League Remix), the meta will still have to take shape. That said, all Go Battle leagues, regardless of CP, share some similarities in what works and what doesn’t, allowing us to get a good idea of what you can use instead.
Some of our Great League Remix alternative recommendations include:
Going with Hariyama, Whiscash or Registeel. Although the above list eliminates many of our Great League recommendations, they weren’t popular enough to include, instead giving you a list of powerful creatures at lower levels to play with.
Of course, some of them are harder to come by; Registeel, for example, can only be captured during certain legendary/mythic events. Luckily, Registeel will be present in raids from Tuesday, June 1 through Thursday, June 17, and will be Legendary Raid Time on Wednesday, June 16. But if you have one, now is the time to implement it. One or two of them may become more redundant than before in the meta, but they’re still great options.
Whiscash, Registeel, and Hariyama should still be viable options in Great League Remix.
Opting for steel, fighter and dark types, which tend to have good results regardless of the league. Some suggestions include Registeel and Melmetal; if you have one with a low enough CP, the latter has a fast Thundershock charged move that is great on any team, while Hariyama or Machamp are cheap but very reliable fighting types.
Going deeper into your Community Day Pokémon. These creatures are generally stronger than average when it comes to fighting prowess, and the exclusive Community Day move they can learn can make them an even more attractive prospect. In particular, it’s good to test the starters here, from any generation, as they have guys that work well in any league.

In Great League Remix, Grass types could take out a Whiscash and other Water types easily, while Fire works very well against Steel. Water is less attractive – it will rarely have the advantage, but at the same time it is also usually resistant to most types that float to the top of the meta, so you could do much worse.
Once again, it’s impossible to know how a new League will play out on its debut (and remember, no team will win every matchup), but hopefully the above will serve as useful inspiration.

Pokémon Go Great League Remix Dates: When does the Great Battle League start and end?
Season 8 of Pokémon Go Great League Remix for Go Battle League will take place between Monday, July 12 and Monday, July 26, starting and ending at the following times:
- 9:00 p.m. – United Kingdom (BST)
- 22:00 hours – Europe (CEST)
- 4:00 pm – US East Coast (EDT)
- 13:00 – US West Coast (PDT)
As with previous special leagues such as the Love Cup, expect the Remix to be a rare event, but one that could return in future seasons.
