How to level up in Elden Ring
To level up in Elden Ring, you must unlock the ability to level up by visiting a specific Grace that will be visited by Melina.
Two of these are located on either side of the Gatefront Ruins location, such as the Gatefront Site of Grace, which is near your starting location.
Know that beyond learning how to level up, not only does it put you on the critical path to Castle Stormveil (when you’re ready to take it on, of course), but Gatefront Ruins is home to your first Map Fragment and the Knife of whetstone.
During the cutscene, accept Melina’s help (if you accidentally refuse, you have the chance to accept again) to receive the chance to level up at future Grace sites.
This interaction will also allow you to call Torrent; in other words, unlocking the Elden Ring horse, which means you’ll be able to explore the world much more easily.

Best Stats to Level Up First in Elden Ring
Once you start carrying enough Runes to level your character in Elden Ring, the question becomes where to spend them. While you’ll be able to respect the specs later, you’ll need to find a way into the game, so it’s worth carefully considering where to assign stats first.
The best stats to level up first depend on your goals, especially in the early game, so here are our recommendations on what to prioritize:
- Vigor and Stamina are your bread and butter in terms of stats, leveling HP and stamina respectively. Both will help you a lot in battle; The more HP you have, the more attacks you can withstand without dying, while more stamina means you can run and block more without becoming fatigued or helpless.
- Strength and Dexterity are useful for melee builds.
