How to turn off crossplay in Modern Warfare 2 on PlayStation and Xbox

Modern Warfare 2 allows you to disable cross-play on consoles, meaning you won’t have to deal with mouse and keyboard players.

Meanwhile, PC owners can’t avoid the auto-targeting used by console players in Modern Warfare 2 at launch.

This could be a developer choice to facilitate stability at launch, but at this time, it is possible to disable cross-play at least on Xbox and PlayStation.

How to disable MW2 crossplay on Xbox

There is currently no in-game option to disable cross-play in Modern Warfare 2 if you are playing on Xbox. However, there is a method outside of the game: access the console settings.

First, go to the dashboard and press the Xbox button. Now you can select ‘Settings’. Now follow these steps:

  1. Select ‘General’
  2. Now ‘Online Safety and Family’
  3. Next, select ‘Online Privacy and Security’
  4. Open ‘Xbox Privacy’
  5. Select ‘View details and personalise’
  6. Now ‘Communication and Multiplayer’
  7. Finally, use the “You can join cross-network play” section and change it to “Block.”

The next time we started the game, we received a message saying that you must provide authorization.

After doing this, we could play multiplayer, with lobbies filled only with Xbox players.

Please note that you may need to restart your console for the settings to take effect, and that this applies to all Xbox games, not just Modern Warfare 2.

Can you disable crossplay on PC?

Currently, there is no way to disable crossplay if you play Modern Warfare 2 on your PC. This is because the option was missing from the game at launch.

Activision has yet to comment on this on launch day. We’ll update when we know more about whether the ability will be added to the game in the future.

The crossplay option does not appear in game menus outside of PlayStation.

Should you disable crossplay in Modern Warfare 2?

There are many reasons why you might want to disable crossplay in Modern Warfare 2.

The main one is that there are big differences between PC players who play with a mouse and keyboard and those who play with a controller on the console. Generally, the mouse and keyboard allow for greater precision and faster movement compared to a console controller. To counter this, console shooters often employ some level of aim assist.

It’s entirely up to you whether or not you should disable cross-play, and whether you mind playing against PC players who have more mobility and faster aiming at their disposal, or console players with aim assist.

Turn it off if you basically want a more level playing field.
