Dancing on an Altar of Alteration to obtain Howling Claws and hitting an opponent while Wolfscent is active are the first two Fortnitemare quests in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4.
This Halloween, you must complete the Fortnitemares quests in Fortnite to unlock special rewards at quest completion milestones 5, 13, and 25. Finding Candy and Pumpkin Launcher soon will also help you complete these challenges!
You’ll also earn 15k XP for completing each of these Fortnitemares missions, which will help you earn Battle Stars for the Battle Pass this season.
Please note that this particular challenge can no longer be completed. What’s new? Chapter 4 Season 2 has arrived! New additions include Grind Rails and Kinetic Blades, along with the new Battle Pass, character collection, and Eren Jaeger skin. It’s a good idea to know how to get XP quickly in Fortnite.

How to dance on an Altar of Alteration to get Howling Claws in Fortnite
There are nine locations near landmarks where you can find alteration altars in Fortnite during the Fortnitemares event, as shown in the image below:

We recommend going to the Reality Tree to find an Altar of Alteration, since there are three very close to each other here. Normally this would be a bad thing, as it makes the Reality Tree a popular landing spot, but to complete the other Fortnitemares quest of “hitting an opponent while Wolfscent is active”, you’ll want to be close to the opponents.
If you’ve already completed these challenges and just want the Screaming Claws, we recommend landing at one of the other six locations.
Once you are in a location containing an Altar of Alteration, keep an eye out for a small circular part of the ground that looks like a mini launch pad – these are Altars of Alteration.
All you have to do to get Howler Claws in Fortnite is stand on one of these alteration altars and press the button indicated on the screen to “Perform Ritual”, then select the “Ritual” emote from the wheel. A short animation will play, and when it’s over you’ll have the Howling Claws and a shiny new wolf mask.
Alternatively, if you ever see an opponent wearing this silver wolf mask, you can eliminate them and they will drop their Howling Claws, which you can then pick up and use without having to go to an Altar of Alteration.

How to activate Wolfscent in Fortnite
To activate the Wolfscent ability in Fortnite, you must hold down the aim button while using Howler Claws. This is L2 on PlayStation, LT on Xbox, ZL on Switch, and right-click on PC.
All you have to do now to complete a Fortnitemares mission is hit an opponent while this Wolfscent ability is active. Press the button you would use to shoot or use your beak to start slashing with your new claws.
Make sure to activate Wolfscent before hitting an opponent to complete the Fortnitemares challenge.
As mentioned above, we recommend landing on the Reality Tree to get your Howling Claws, activating Wolfscent, and then hitting an opponent here, as there are usually a lot of people trying to get Howling Claws on the tree. You can easily find people using Wolfscent, as it will mark them with a purple glow when close enough to you.
Just keep in mind that the Howling Claws have a cooldown to activate the Wolfscent ability, which can be seen by looking at the item in the bottom right corner of the screen.
