How to activate the Centrifuge in Dead Space by attaching Clutch Generator Modules

The Dead Space remake changes some of the gameplay, but often keeps things familiar, like the Centrifuge puzzle in Chapter 3.

If you’ve never tried it or don’t remember the solution to the puzzle, it can be a bit tricky to solve as there’s no reference point to guide you and no clear instructions on what to do.

To speed things up, we’ve detailed exactly how to activate the centrifuge in Dead Space by connecting the clutch generator modules. The same general method applies to the original, but the images and locations below are from the remake.

How to activate the centrifuge in Dead Space by connecting clutch generator modules

The two clutch generator modules are the metal “arms” that sit on top of rails connected to the centrifuge in the middle of the room. They are identifiable by the magnet symbol on their side, which shows that you can use your Kinesis to move them.

However, if you try to do this on your own, you will only get a few sparks and the clutch generator module will kick back. It’s a little harder to spot in the new version thanks to all the details in the room, but this is because the arm rotates.

To stop the rotation of the clutch generator modules and activate the centrifuge in Dead Space Remake, you must first use your other Kinesis power to slow down the arm and then use your Kinesis to move it towards the centrifuge. It should now stay in place, unless your Kinesis runs out before placing it. If that happens, try again.

To slow down with Kinesis, while aiming, press ‘Y’ on Xbox controllers or Triangle on PlayStation. To move with Kinesis, while aiming, press ‘B’ on Xbox or Circle on PlayStation.

You must connect both clutch generator modules this way.

If you need to recharge your Statis, return to the door leading to the elevator shaft, just to the left of where you first entered the room, near the mass of dirt blocking the hallway.

Once you have connected both clutch generator modules, you can finally activate the centrifuge by going to the blocked elevator shaft on the other side of the room where the stasis recharge is located and pressing the message on the screen to “Reset Centrifuge.”

Now that you have activated the centrifuge, your next task is to start the motors. To follow the correct path to do this, turn around and take the elevator behind you. You will then have to time your dash to the left so as not to get hit by the newly activated machinery.

Take the elevator again and leave the area, but be careful of the necromorphs in your path. When you have oxygen again, a large enemy will grab you and start dragging you away. To stop him from dragging Issac, you must shoot his big shiny sack. We recommend using the pulse rifle for this, but any weapon should eventually get him to go away.

Follow the marker past the decontamination room and up the freight elevator to find your way back to the main room in Chapter 3. The door to start the engines will now be open.
