Imperials are used to unlock new upgrades for the Chalice of Opulence, which in turn give you improved and more customizable rewards when you complete Menagerie mode.

How to get imperials in Destiny 2
There are a variety of methods to obtain Imperials in Destiny 2, and the good news is that there is some crossover with most of them, allowing you to earn Imperials from multiple sources by doing the same few activities.
Let’s start with the essentials.
First upgrade the Chalice with Power and Efficiency II and purchase Emperor’s Wealth buffs
Once you’ve completed The Invitation questline, you’ll have completed your first Menagerie run and learned how to upgrade the Chalice.
There are more upgrades on offer, each costing a number of Imperials, and the first one you should purchase is ‘Power and Efficiency II’ for 3,000 Imperials. It’s a bit complicated, although you could argue that all upgrades are, but this is one that, once activated, sees other playlist activities such as Raids, Gambit and Crucible and Menagerie matches, which drop 500 Imperials from time to time.
Once you have that, you should purchase the ‘Emperor’s Wealth’ perk from Werner 99-40. This “significantly increases the chance of earning Imperials from Raids, Gambit, and the Crucible”, and “greatly increases the chance of earning Imperials in the Menagerie” and lasts until Imperials are obtained from one of those activities. .
Remember that you can only purchase this perk once you have the upgrade, but you should use it whenever possible to keep the Imperials coming, especially since it costs a small amount of Glimmer and Legendary Shards, resources of which you will likely have plenty.
Collect and complete Werner 99-50 weekly rewards.
In addition to giving you powerful gear and a legendary rune, the four weekly Werner 99-50 rewards are worth picking up each week. Many of these aren’t even tied to Mengarie: from gaining experience to completing Vanguard bounties by looting legendary engrams from the ground, you should pick them up on restart before doing anything else to easily get Imperials.

Once you’ve completed The Invitation questline, you’ll be directed to the chests at the back of the barge where Werner 99-50 resides on Nessus.
Each one costs 5000 Glimmer to open and gives you 150 imperials and a rune. There aren’t many imperials, but it all adds up. These should also reset every week, so this is a reliable and easy method, assuming you have Glimmer burning a hole in your pocket.
Complete Triumphs in the Menagerie
Running the Menagerie doesn’t automatically grant you Imperials (even with the Power and Efficiency II upgrade active, it’s just a one-shot), but you can earn them by completing various associated Triumphs.
Basically, it’s about completing various activities and boss encounters with certain requirements. Each one is worth 500 Trumps, so it’s worth keeping them in mind.
As this is a paired activity, it may be difficult for everyone to get into specific strategies, but hopefully as time goes on and power levels increase, these will become more feasible.

How to farm imperials in Destiny 2
If you’ve run out of the above sources, a reliable way to farm Imperials is to, once you have Might and Efficiency II unlocked, run any paired activity (Strikes, Crucible, Gambit, and Menagerie) for a chance to farm Imperials at finish. .
Combine it with the Emperor’s Wealth buff that you can buy from Werner 99-50 and you’ll increase your chances even more.
In theory, all paired activities (apart from Menagerie, which has a lower chance) have the same chance of eliminating Imperials in the end as the others (according to Harmonicragex on reddit, the chances are around 20%), so choose whichever you prefer . like it and keep completing it. Arguably the quickest is the Crucible matches, so that might be the quickest method.
That said, for a limited time only (as we assume Bungie will fix this sooner rather than later) there is an Imperial Chest Cheese serving as the best Imperial Farm in the Season of Opulence launch.
