Death Stranding length explained: How long is Death Stranding?

Death Stranding will appeal to players in different ways, and if you simply want to see the story through to the end, it’s worth knowing how long Death Stranding is before you start.

If you want to compare it with Hideo Kojima’s previous games, we are looking at an adventure closer to Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain than the previous and shorter entries in the series to cross the critical path.

Before that though, if you haven’t already, it’s worth reading our Death Stranding review to find out if the game sounds like your cup of tea.

Death Stranding Duration: How long is Death Stranding?

According to the average estimates of those who played until the end, Death Stranding takes between 40 and 50 hours to bring the story to its conclusion.

The lower end of this estimate is if you decide to focus solely on the main story objectives, and it extends if you really delve into the side content, from optional standard orders, which allow you to make additional deliveries, to leveling up facilities or taking time. to improve player builds in Death Stranding multiplayer.

It’s also worth noting that there’s no point of no return to worry about while playing, both in terms of completing individual episodes and also once you finish the story.

For example, although the game will regularly tell you that you must complete any incomplete deliveries before traveling to a new region, that doesn’t mean you can’t return and continue making deliveries.

With fast travel you can easily return to previous areas, so if you want to get new standard orders, level up facilities and structures from earlier in the game, you can do so.

In short, don’t feel like you have to complete 100% of an area before moving on – you can always do it later!

How many episodes are there in Death Stranding?

Without giving away details, there are a total of 14 episodes in Death Stranding to complete before the story ends.

It is worth clarifying that not all episodes have the same length; For example, we estimate that the beginning to the end of episode 3 takes up about a third of the game.

This is partly because the episodes focus on different things depending on where the story is, such as the Prologue and Episode 1, which are mostly made up of cutscenes and only contain one playable story mission each.

In addition to this, there is an optional series of Orders set in the Ruined Factory as part of the new Director’s Cut missions. These are optional, have a more stealthy flavor, and are at least worth starting to unlock some useful new items to take elsewhere, like the support skeleton and the Maser pistol.
