The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for Nintendo Switch is a remake of the original game first released for the Nintendo Wii in 2011.
In Skyward Sword, you, of course, take on the role of Link as he leaves his floating home of Skyloft to explore the surface world hidden beneath the clouds. Accompanied by the sword spirit Fi, you will traverse a variety of dungeons in your quest to defeat a nearly forgotten evil.

Zelda: Skyward Sword Walkthrough
Skyward Sword follows a linear story that involves tackling seven dungeons. In between this dungeon crawl, you’ll also need to complete a variety of other activities, such as competing in the Wing Ceremony or exploring the forgotten world above.
Below is our Skyward Sword walkthrough, which is organized by the locations and dungeons you’ll visit to complete Link’s quest.
However, this walkthrough contains major spoilers for the entirety of Skyward Sword, so read at your own risk.
Loft:
First dungeon – Skyview Temple:
Second dungeon – Temple of Earth:
By placing the Ruby Tablet, you will be able to complete the side quest, Finding Kukiel, to unlock the Gratitude Crystals.
Third Dungeon – Lanayru Mining Facility:
First visit to Thunderhead and Isle of Songs.
- First battle with The Imprisoned in Sealed Grounds
- Visit to the director of the Knights Academy.
- Place the first windmill, located between the plaza and the academy, using the gust bellows.
- Repair the robot in the Skyloft Bazaar using an ancient flower
- Find the pinwheel at Eldin Volcano
- Fix the windmill on top of the houses and place it correctly.
- Play the harp at the top of the tower in the square.

- Use the Gust Bellows, avoid the Bokoblins and Mogma Mitts to recover the Clawshots.
- Use the Clawshots, avoid the Bokoblins, and use Bomb Flowers to get the whip back.
- Use the whip, claws, and bomb flowers to retrieve the slingshot.
- Use the Clawshots, Slingshot to stun the Bokoblins, and Mogma Mitts to retrieve the bomb bag.
- Use bombs to reach the top of the volcano and recover the master sword.
- Head into the cave on the right and use the stone to reach the other side.
- Follow the caves, kill the enemies to recover the rest of your equipment.
- Return to the cave to the right of the Bird Statue and go through the entrance on the other side of the lava pool.
- Break the ropes using your sword and Hook Beetle.
- Talk to the Fire Dragon

- Lanayru Desert: Land at the ancient port and return to the area with the Gorons (Lanayru Caves)
- Throw a bomb into the crawlspace to reach Lanayru Gorge.
- Use the hook beetle to retrieve the small key from the ledge below the dragon skeleton.
- Activate the Timeshift Stone on the mine cart and use your items to take them to the dragon skeleton.
- Talk to the Thunder Dragon

Tips and tricks for Zelda: Skyward Sword
Here are some tips and tricks to help you complete Link’s mission in Skyward Sword:
- Remember to change your shield! Aside from the Hylian Shield, there are three main types of shields you’ll use in Skyward Sword: wooden, iron, and holy. Each has its own set of advantages and disadvantages, so it’s always a good idea to make sure you have the right shield before leaving Skyloft.
- Repair your shield. Most shields in Skyward Sword have a health meter, which decreases as they take damage. Fortunately, your shield can be repaired at the Scrap Shop in the Skyloft Bazaar.
- Update your articles! Many of the items you find in Skyward Sword can be upgraded in the scrap shop in the bazaar. Doing this will increase the abilities of said item, from its speed to the amount of damage it deals.
- Have a variety of potions on hand. Potions will grant health, stamina, and even make Link invincible for a small period of time. You can even enhance their effects by bringing specific bugs to the potion makers in the Skyloft Bazaar.
- Always remember to pack your adventure bag before leaving Skyloft! You can only carry a certain amount of extra items with you, so make sure you bring at least one potion, a shield, and medals or items like extra bomb bags.
- Collect every heart piece you see. Collecting four heart pieces will increase Link’s health meter by one heart container, helping you survive the toughest boss battles.
- Hit each Goddess Cube with a Skyward Strike. Throughout the surface world, you will find gray Goddess Cubes that, when hit with a Skyward Strike, will unlock a chest in the sky. These chests contain a variety of useful items, from heart pieces to rupees, so make sure you get all of them.
- Catch bugs when you see them! While bugs can be used to upgrade potions, collecting them can involve a bit of backtracking. For this reason, it’s a good idea to catch an error every time you see one.
- Sell insects and additional materials for rupees. If you need extra rupees, explore Skyloft at night. Strich, who lives in the Knight Academy, will buy three randomly selected insects, while Rupin, who has a shop in the bazaar during the day, will buy four random materials.
- Carry medals in your adventure bag for bonuses. From an extra heart to increasing the duration of specific potions, medals give you useful bonuses in Skyward Sword. You can find medals in chests or buy them at Beedle’s Airshop.
- Talk to Fi if you’re really stuck. Fi is always there to point you in the right direction or give you clues about what’s going on in Skyloft.
