How to prepare for Zhuyan in Wo Long Fallen Dynasty
The Two Chivalrous Heroes quest is recommended for level 5 players, which you should already be at after the previous quest. Zhuyan’s starting morale is 10, so also make sure you have placed flags to increase your strength rank. If you’ve managed to avoid dying and fought enough enemies along the way, you might even have morale at 10 at this point.
Improved Defense is a magic spell you should have learned and equipped, but another useful one is Absorb Vitality. This allows you and your allies to temporarily restore HP when you deal damage, which is great when you can punish a stunned enemy, saving you from having to use a draft from your dragon’s healing pot. This spell requires having your Wood virtue leveled up to three and you will also have to learn the Lightning spell.
Indicated by text, this boss fight also teaches you to focus on lowering the upper limit of the boss’ spirit gauge, so you can stagger it much sooner, by using spirit attacks or deflections. Although this is something you should have already been practicing against Zhang Liang previously, you should already be prepared for this.
Zhao Yun will also fight alongside you here, so you can sometimes rely on him to bait the ape while you take a moment to recover or get in some free hits when his back is turned. He’s tankier than you, but keep in mind that he can still be knocked down, although you’ll have a chance to revive him if this happens.
How to defeat Zhuyan in Wo Long Fallen Dynasty
Zhuyan has huge arms that he likes to get close to hitting you with. So, it’s good news that all of these attacks can be deflected, so let’s review what those attacks are.
His attacks usually consist of swinging his right arm towards you or slamming it into the ground in front. He can also do a combo where he swings his right, then his left, before slamming his right down, so you’ll have to be on your toes to deflect one after the other.
He has another attack where he jumps and slams the ground with both arms, which can also deal AOE damage. He sometimes does it twice in a row or can even follow it up with an unblockable somersault, although he can also do this alone.
His other unblockable attack to look at gives you more time to anticipate as he performs a backflip and then flies feet first towards you with a fiercely fast corkscrew kick. We’re not sure if the backflip can hurt you, since he tends to charge this from a distance, but be ready to deflect it the moment his feet hit the ground after the backflip.
Being able to deflect this unblockable is important as it increases your morale if it connects, but it also leaves you open to punishment for a couple of seconds after allowing yourself some free hits. A combo that ends with a spirit attack is highly recommended here, as it will greatly push your spirit gauge into the red. In fact, the unblockable attack already consumes some of Zhuyan’s spirit, so we found that deflecting this attack and then performing a spirit combo can be enough to stagger him and deal a fatal blow.
Although you will lose a morale point with the fatal blow, note that Zhuyan quickly regains it once he is at about two-thirds of his health, as he roars and creates a red demonic aura around him. Although, fortunately, this aura does not have any adverse effects on you. However, he will get a ranged attack where he will throw a rock at you, and while this can be deflected, it won’t affect his own spirit gauge.
During this time, Zhao Yun will also be fighting at your side, so it’s a good idea to be positioned on opposite sides of the arena. This will allow you to get some free hits while the ape’s back is turned, retreat to use your dragon’s healing pot or one of your magic spells (remember to try casting Absorb Vitality if Zhuyan’s Spirit Gauge is getting close to staggering). Note that when he turns to face your ally, the actual turning of his body (or perhaps it’s his tail whip?) can damage you, so block or deflect this.
In addition to the damage you’re dealing trying to take down Zhuyan’s spirit gauge, three fatal blows from staggering him should be enough to kill that ape, making this a pretty quick fight, as long as you don’t get hit too soon.
