How to start camera work in the depths of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

Before you can start the Camera Work in The Depths quest in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you must first have reached the point in Crisis At Hyrule Castle where you unlocked the Paragliding and Regional Phenomena quests.

At this point, Josha will run to the area below where Purah is, which is also where you can find Robbie. He follows Josha to this location and talks to her to start the quest Camera Work in the Depths.

Once you are done talking to Josha and Robbie, you will receive 10 Brightbloom Seeds and five Arrows. Brightbloom Seeds are incredibly useful when exploring the chasms because once fused with an arrow, you can shoot them at a wall to light up part of the area around you.

Hyrule Field Chasm location in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

You must visit the Hyrule Field Chasm in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to complete the Camera Work in The Depths quest. When you’re ready, leave Lookout Landing via its southern exit and continue south until you reach Hyrule Field Chasm, which is near Jiosin Shrine.

The location of the Hyrule Field Abyss.

If this is your first time exploring one of the chasms, we recommend making sure you gather some powerful weapons (take the time to fuse material into them) and also have a good stock of arrows. The chasms are a dangerous place, so you’ll need a well-stocked arsenal.

It is important to note that health works differently in the abysses. While you can still heal yourself by eating or drinking elixirs in The Depths, if a heart turns gray and breaks, you won’t be able to restore this portion of health. This happens when you come into contact with Gloom, not with the Pokemon, but with puddles of red goo, either by stepping into one of the puddles or by being attacked by a Gloom-infested enemy.

If one of your hearts turns grey, then you can restore it by returning to the surface, standing in the center of a Lightroot, or eating something using Sundelions, a plant found on sky islands, as an ingredient. Once the hearts are back to normal, you will need to eat something to restore your missing health.

How to unlock the camera in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

To reach the depths of the Hyrule Field Chasm in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you need to dive into the abyss. Just make sure you paraglide when the time is right or Link will die.

The first thing you need to do in The Depths is talk to Ponnick, who is standing near a hot air balloon in a small area of light. Ponnick will explain that Robbie has escaped into the Depths, so you must follow him.

The Depths, however, is a very dark place and you will need to use Brightbloom Seeds to light your way. The easiest way to do this is to fuse a Brightbloom seed with an arrow and then shoot it into the ground, but if you want to save your arrows, you can always drop the seed.

For now you should head towards the large shiny object directly west of Ponnick.

Once you’re there, stand under Lightroot and examine the bright green handprint. This will cause part of the surrounding area to light up, making your progress much easier. It also adds some of the surrounding area to your The Depths map and allows you to fast travel back to this root of light. Lightroot will also heal any damage you’ve taken and restore any debuffed hearts you may have.

Next, you need to head to the fire to the west of your current location, but before you leave, you can read a note from Robbie on the table next to the fire.

Be sure to avoid the pools of darkness on your way to the next fire: if you stay in a pool of darkness for too long, one of Link’s hearts will turn gray and this part of your health will be locked. To restore it, you must return to the surface, stand in the center of a Lightroot, or consume a meal that contains Sundelions as an ingredient.

Once you reach the next fire, read the note left by Robbie to learn that he continued west, and if you look to your left, you’ll see another Lightroot in the distance.

Head towards this Lightwood.

Head towards this Lightroot using Brightbloom Seeds to light the way and avoid pools of darkness. You may also find yourself attacked by enemies on this path and if this is the case, be very careful. Enemies in The Depths can deal more damage than those on the surface and some are infected with darkness, so be careful.

When you reach Lightroot, Layusus Lightroot to be exact, stand beneath it, select Examine to light up part of the nearby area, and add more land to your The Depths map. Next, you’ll find Robbie nearby standing by the fire.

Talking to Robbie will unlock the camera ability, and to test it out, you’ll need to take a photo of the nearby statue for Josha. You may have to back up a little to make sure she’s in the frame, but click away! You’ll know when you’ve taken the photo correctly, but Robbie will automatically talk to you.

Now it’s time to head back to Lookout Landing, where you’ll find Robbie and Josha in the room under Purah’s house. Talk to Robbie to start the conversation that will lead you to the end of the quest and you will receive five Zonaites from Josha.

With that, Camera Work in The Depths will come to an end, and if you’d like to learn more about Link’s adventure in Hyrule, check out our Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom walkthrough.
