The TEC-9 is a new SMG that debuted during Season 5 and arrived in both Black Ops: Cold War and Warzone.
Unlike many of the weapons that have recently joined this category, this is a semi-automatic SMG, meaning you will be the one firing each bullet. It can be done in quick succession, of course, but it is of a different nature. That said, it’s no less deadly than the rest and attachments can make it better.

How to unlock the TEC-9 in Warzone
As is often the norm with new weapons in the Battle Pass, the TEC-9 can be unlocked by leveling up the Battle Pass or purchasing a blueprint.
To unlock the TEC-9, you must reach level 31 in the battle pass.
It is a fairly simple task, although it requires a little time. If you’re playing Black Ops Cold War, we recommend completing the 24/7 modes as well as the Team Deathmatch playlists. They won’t take long in terms of match length and you can always get good XP from them, which makes for a good balance in terms of trade-offs.
If you opt for just Warzone, we highly recommend choosing Plunder instead of Battle Royale, as it will allow you to revive during the match and get the most out of each session. But Battle Royale or Rebirth modes will also work well. Up to you!
The best Warzone TEC-9 equipment and accessories
Below are our recommendations for optimal TEC-9 equipment, as well as the corresponding levels for each:
- Muzzle: Fully automatic repeater (unlocked at level 46)
- Barrel: 4.9″ Task Force (unlocked at level 48)
- Laser: Tiger Team Spotlight (unlocks at level 40)
- Stock: Raider Stock (unlocked at level 54)
- Ammunition: STANAG 48 Rnd (unlocks at level 34)
Starting with the mouth, we opted for the fully automatic repeater. This will turn the TEC-9 into a fully automatic SMG, as well as adding position concealment and improving run-to-fire time.
Let’s move on to the canyon. We opted for the 4.9″ Task Force, which increases damage range as well as adding bullet speed and strafing speed. In exchange, it trades one hit for vertical and horizontal recoil control, but not by much.
As for the laser, you can’t go wrong with the Tiger Team Spotlight, which increases movement and targets movement speed while walking. The laser will be visible to others and your aiming stability will be slightly affected, but it is worth including.
Choosing the Raider Stock will greatly balance the overall build by improving ADS firing movement and walking aiming movement speed, as well as sprint time to fire. It does come at a cost to shooting accuracy, but not by a large margin.
Lastly, opting for the STANAG 48 Rnd is the best option for the weapon’s ammunition. It decreases ADS time and reload speed, but the 48-round magazine is essential.

Best Warzone TEC-9 Class Build, Perks, and Loadouts
Here are our picks for the best items, like loadouts and perks, to create the best TEC-9 class build in Warzone:
- Perk 1: Quick Fix (unlocks at level 42)
- Perk 2: Overkill (unlocks at level 38)
- Perk 3: Expanded (unlocks at level 1)

The TEC-9 has a more than decent rate of fire, but when combined with the auto repeater, it won’t take long to start taking out enemies. To do this, we recommend starting health regeneration immediately afterwards with Quick Fix. As usual, if level 42 sounds a little high, we recommend going for EOD as it will help mitigate damage from explosives and non-killstreak shots until you can unlock this perk.
We recommend going with Overkill as a second buff. This time we opted for the AK-47 from Black Ops Cold War. Yes, there is also the Modern Warfare version, but the Cold War variant is one of the best assault rifles in the game right now, and one that will cover the long-range side.
For the third perk, we opted for Amped over the others to ensure you can switch between the two weapons as quickly as possible.
Lastly, the heartbeat sensor is the perfect companion for preparing ahead of time or tracking down anyone who dares to escape your line of sight. However, in case someone manages to sneak near you, having a Claymore placed near you should help.
