Shiny Tepig, Tepig evolution chart and best Emboar moveset recommendation in Pokémon Go

Tepig is the focus of July 2021 Community Day in Pokémon Go, in which Fire-type Pokémon will have increased appearances for six hours.

This event not only gives you the opportunity to complete a series of Pokédex entries, but it also helps you locate the Shiny version of the featured Pokémon.

Once you’ve captured the best Tepig you can, you’ll most likely want to evolve it and make sure it knows the best moveset available.

Below you can find a preview of the shiny Tepig and, for evolution purposes, the Tepig evolution table and the best Emboar moveset, so you can decide what to do with all those Tepig.

Tepig Evolution Chart: What does Tepig evolve into?

Tepig, like all starter Pokémon, has two evolutions, Pignite and Emboar, which, in Pokémon Go, require 25 and 100 candies respectively.

This knowledge will help you determine exactly how many Tepig Candy you need and, in turn, how many Tepig you need to catch before the end of Community Day, which runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (local time).

Fortunately, there are several methods you can use to increase your candy earnings, including:

  • Using Pinap Berries to double your Catch Candy from 3 to 6
  • Mega Evolve into Charizard or Houndoom to receive an extra candy per capture.
  • Waiting until Highlight Time on Tuesday, July 20 so you can enjoy the double Transfer Candy bonus

The above is particularly useful if you plan to play only part of Community Day, rather than the entire event, to ensure you have enough candy to evolve a Tepig and power it up properly.

When you’re ready to evolve, use the search function to find the 3* or 4* Tepig you’ve captured, so you can choose the best one.

Remember: you have two extra hours after Community Day ends, which is 7 pm (local time), to convert a Pignite into an Emboar that knows the event’s exclusive move. However, if you miss this window, it can be taught using an Elite Charged TM.

Emboar Moves Explained and Best Moveset Recommendation in Pokémon Go

When evolving a Tepig into an Emboar in Pokémon Go, we recommend a moveset of Ember (Fast) and Blast Burn (Charged). Since this charged attack is the exclusive move for Community Day, you’ll want to build up a Pignite before 7pm (local time) of the event itself.

Unfortunately, Emboar is not a good fit for any of the Go Battle leagues or five-star raids. Still, if you want to train a powerful Emboar as a “just in case” scenario, then Tepig Community Day is the perfect time to do it.

Since Blast Burn is more powerful than Flame Charge and Heat Wave, it automatically becomes the best fire-type move Emboar can learn. This means you should either evolve a 3* or 4* Pignite during Community Day to ensure your Emboar knows this attack or, once the event ends, use an Elite Charged TM.

We also recommend unlocking Emboar’s second charged attack, so you can use Emboar’s secondary type by teaching it a fighting or rock move. Focus Blast, although slow to charge, is a good choice for this slot, due to the amount of damage it deals.

When it comes to fast moves, Ember is only slightly more powerful than Low Kick. However, your choice depends on whether you want Emboar to focus on fire or fighting moves.

This is, of course, our own opinion, and below you can find the full moveset for Emboar, which is available through Fast and Charged TM:

Fast movements:

  • ember (fire)
  • Low kick (fight)

Charged Moves:

  • Blast Burn: Community Day exclusive move
  • Flame charge (fire)
  • Focus explosion (fight)
  • Heat wave (fire)
  • Rock slide (rock)

The Season of Adventure Abundance is here! The Detective Pikachu Returns event is currently underway. You can also work on the Timed Investigation: Master Ball mission and compete in Go Battle League. Be sure to compete in Shadow Raids, complete routes, use Daily Adventure Incense for a chance to encounter Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres. This incense can also give you encounters with other rare Pokémon in Pokémon Go.

What do Shiny Tepig, Shiny Pignite, and Shiny Emboar look like in Pokémon Go?

Community Days in Pokémon Go are, due to the increased spawn rate, the perfect opportunity to hunt down the shiny version of a Pokémon.

In fact, you’re more likely to find a shiny version of the Pokémon featured on your Community Day, because the shiny rate will be higher and catching more of the same type also increases the chance of finding one.

It’s easy to tell if you’ve found a shiny Pokémon, because the encounter will start with a burst of stars, a “shiny” icon will appear next to its name, and its color will be different.

Since Tepig’s Community Day also marks the release of its shiny form, including Pignite and Emboar, this is the perfect opportunity to add it to your shiny collection!

Thanks to reddit’s lewymd for creating the brilliant Tepig evolution tree comparison above.

If you want to develop a shiny Tepig, we recommend waiting until the end of Community Day to ensure you have one with the best IVs. You find out which is the lucky Tepig by searching your Pokémon collection using 3* and 4*.

Don’t forget, you have until 7 pm (local time) on Community Day to earn the exclusive move or evolution, and then you’ll have to use an Elite Charged TM.

Ultimately, Community Days are the perfect opportunities to collect enough candy to fully evolve a Pokémon and power it up properly. With careful planning, both in terms of Pokémon selection and moveset, you can use this event to add some truly powerful Pokémon to your collection.
