Scorn is intentionally obtuse with almost all of his puzzles until you get used to his alien technology, including at the beginning of Act 1, when it’s clear that you need to open the main door in the central room.
The egg puzzle in the top half of this room will help you open this door, but it’s not entirely clear how, or even what you need to do to solve it.
To help you progress, we’ve got the solution to the egg puzzle in Scorn Act 1 below, and we’ve also detailed exactly what to do with the egg and how to open the main door once you’ve solved this first problem.

Contempt Egg Puzzle Solution in Act 1
One of the most annoying things about the egg puzzle in Act 1 is that it’s not solved when you think it is, since there are actually two eggs that you have to interact with in this strange interconnected alien crane system.
First of all, if you haven’t found the egg puzzle yet, go to the circular part of the room with the alien chair and the small crane found on the lower floor of the main room. Interact with the panel in the circular part and you will see that it is actually an elevator that will take you to the upper floor.
Take the elevator to find the egg puzzle.
Don’t worry about the sides of this level, as you can’t open the door at the end yet. Instead, head to the walkway in the middle of the floor and look to your right. You’ll see the alien egg puzzle on the wall, along with a panel you can interact with that will move these eggs with some sort of crane-on-rails device.
To solve this egg puzzle, you must first place the beautiful red “juicy” egg in the red slot in the upper left corner.
To move the eggs in this puzzle, you must move the crane over one and then hold down the “Use” button and move the crane again. On Xbox controllers, you can do this by holding down the “A” key and then moving the left stick. Release ‘A’ when you want to stop moving an egg. You can pause the game to check the controls at any time if you are unsure.
Some eggs are actually attached to each other horizontally and vertically, so you will have to slide them until you leave a clear path for the red egg in the red slot.
Once you’ve moved the juicy egg to the top left corner, exit this screen and then interact with the panel in the middle of the platform. This will activate the large crane, which will try to grab the egg, but will end up exploding it. You must do this to free up a space.
This is where the real puzzle begins. To completely solve this egg puzzle in Act 1, you need to move the connected eggs vertically to the red slot in the upper left corner, then use the large crane interacting with the panel in the middle to break it. and move your ‘contents’ to the bottom half of the room.
I can’t give you an exact solution, as the placement of your eggs may be very different from where mine was right now, but you should try to move all the other eggs to the right side of this puzzle to make room for the vertical eggs. If you have at least one slot on the right unfilled, you won’t be able to move the vertical eggs to where they need to go.
In the end, you should have the same egg placement as in the image below, and then you can use the crane in the middle to break and move the vertically placed egg that you placed in the red slot.
What to do with the egg in Contempt Act 1
Now that you’ve dug your friend out of the egg, you’ll need to move him to the seat in the middle of the room, push him on the rails until he cracks, push him on the rails again to the right room to get picked up, then lift his arm so he can use it to open the front door… Welcome to Scorn!
Please note that there is another way to solve this second egg puzzle in a way that could save your new friend, but we haven’t been able to figure out how to do it yet. Unfortunately for the egg, we only know the gruesome method.
For the first step of the gruesome method, let’s establish the path to the disappearance of the egg. Go to the spiral structure in the middle of the ground floor in the main room and interact with the panel. Change the location of the rail so that it leads to the room with the alien chair and the small crane (the one with the circular elevator).
Then, go back down to the bottom of the spiral structure and look for a crane on a chair. You will see your egg companion nearby. Use the panel directly in front of the crane (near the spiral structure) to move the crane up, grab the egg, then move the crane down and place the egg on the chair below.
Push the egg on the chair until it stops and spins, then use the nearby panel to activate the saw and open it completely.
I’m sorry friend.
If you have moved the rails correctly, you can now push the broken egg into the room with the small crane and the alien chair. Use the panel that controls the crane to lift the egg to the chair, then use the other panel that controls the shovel to carry your poor egg friend to the hole below, leaving his arm behind.
Grab the arm of the chair, as you need it to open the front door and advance the story.

How to open the main door in Scorn Act 1
As mentioned above, there is another way to open the front door that could save your egg friend, but so far we’ve only solved the gruesome method.
Once you have the arm breaking and collecting the egg, take it to the room to the left of the main door.
Follow the path into the next room, then insert your hand into the alien machine sticking out of the wall, the one under a red light. This will give your hand the same device you have to control alien technology.
Go back to the main door and interact with the panel on the left first. You’ll be using your hand with the device, so you can then use your own hands for the panel on the right. The door will open completely and you can proceed to Part 2 of Act 1.
