The rebooted adventures of Lara Croft continue in this sequel to 2013’s Tomb Raider. A little older and a little tougher than the shipwrecked archeology student who appeared in that game, Lara is now a hopeless adventurer on a determined quest to prove that the Extravagant claims made by his father, the disgraced Lord Croft, are correct. Her search takes her, via a brief stop in Syria, to the mountains of Siberia in search of (you guessed it) a lost city and a powerful ancient artifact. She and Nathan Drake should compare notes sometime.
Like the last game, Crystal Dynamics has created a mix of straight-forward action-adventure with “RPG-lite” character development, and given everything a strong survival motif. The story is fairly linear, but it takes you through some sprawling areas packed with side quests, challenges, and best of all, the optional Challenge Tombs – secret ruins where you’ll have to solve a complex puzzle to unlock a powerful perk. for Lara. But first you will have to find them.

Mountain peak
This first area is essentially a movement tutorial and introduces the climbing and jumping mechanics, so it’s time to put on your winter gear and prepare for some snow stunts.

Follow Jonah along the cliff and after a few meters there will be a small rockfall. A few meters ahead, a larger rockfall will send you tumbling to your doom and trigger a quick-time event. [QTE]. Press X to grab the ledge, then follow the on-screen prompts and move along the ledge to the right. Climb up the rocks, get close to the rough ice, and then use your ice picks to ascend. When you reach the ledge, head left, jump across the gap, and then jump over to your waiting companion.
Go up the path and through the cave. Sneak up the narrow ledge and then jump onto the climbable ice. When you get to the top, jump and grab the ledge, then jump across the small gap, along the ledge, then grab the next piece of ice. As you progress, a large chunk will fall, leaving you with a large room to negotiate. Jump on it and press X to grapple, which will trigger another QTE. Press X to avoid plummeting to your doom, then climb to the right and jump over the gap.
Disaster strikes, but luckily Jonah manages to hold you back. While you hang from the end of the rope, he uses LS to swing you back and forth to build momentum, then use X to grab the ice when you’re close enough. Once you have it, go up and then run to your right to escape the avalanche.
Now you are alone and there is no time to waste time; If you stay still for too long, it’s game over. Follow the path and jump to the wooden platform, then go down to the next platform. Head towards the wreckage, being careful not to get pushed by the falling snow. Next, stand on the rock near the plane’s engine and quickly jump to the bar sticking out of the side of the plane, then to the zip line.
After getting off the zip line, you will slide down a steep slope. Press X when prompted to slow your descent and grab the ledge, then quickly jump to your right and run to safety. Run forward along the collapsing cliff and when you reach the end, jump and grab the ice.
Syria
A brief flashback that now serves as an introduction to the puzzle and collectible game: sun, sand and cerebral taunts await in the catacombs ahead.
The lost tomb
After the cutscene you will find yourself dazed and confused and on a cliff path. Follow it, then go up to your right and enter the cave. Once you reach the chamber, press RS to activate Survival Instinct and highlight objects of interest. Examine the paintings and plaque on the wall to improve your Greek skill, then examine the monolith to reveal the location of a coin cache on your map. Locate it, then head over to the cracked brick wall, examine it, and use your ax to break through it.
The hidden oasis
Go up the path to your left, jump over the small gap and climb the brick pillar. Follow the handholds left and up, then head towards the balance beam on your left. It will start to collapse as you go through it, so be prepared to take a couple of jumps to solid ground. Jump up and around the corner, jump across the gap, glide to your right, drop to the temple entrance, and head into the darkness.
