Request 66 'The Sea's Legend' and how to get Manaphy in Pokémon Legends Arceus

The Legend of the Sea is one of the requests available in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

It’s Request 66, and Professor Laventon asks you to find an ocean Pokémon that he believes could be associated with a mysterious legend.

This is one of the longest and most complicated requests in the game, as it requires you to obtain several Pokémon along the way, such as the new Pokémon Overqwil. We explain how to get them, the remaining steps of the mission, and finally, The Sea’s Legend reward: Manaphy. (She’s a good one!)

How to start Request 66 ‘Legend of the Sea’ in Pokémon Legends Arceus

Request 66 will appear on the board as you progress through the game’s main story. You may need to get to the end credits first, as this is a fairly late request. Once you have accepted it on the board, Professor Laventon will speak to you immediately.

Laventon will tell you that he saw a mysterious Pokémon while he was at Prelude Beach. He says that he believes ocean currents must have carried him to the lands of the Cobalt coast.

Warden Iscan will then appear and say that there isn’t much to go on, but that a long time ago the Cobalt Coast Lands used to be known as the Eastern Sea and were home to a “princely” Pokémon. The story of the princely Pokémon was written in a book, but no one seems to know where the book is.

This is actually an Easter egg tying Pokémon Legends Arceus to Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, so there aren’t many clues to go on in the game’s description. You can see this in the following video:

With that in mind, what do we do next?

How to get the Pokémon you need for ‘The Sea’s Legend’

Based on the legend that can be found in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, you will need to obtain a Buizel, a Mantyke, and an Overqwil for this request.

Buizel can be found in Obsidian Fieldlands, specifically in the Horseshoe Plains, Windswept Run, and Worn Bridge areas. They can also be found at a higher level in the Cobalt Coast Lands, specifically on Aipom Hill and near Bathers’ Lagoon.

They appear at all times of the day and night, so it should be easy to catch one.

Mantyke can be found on the Cobalt Coastline, specifically Ginkgo Landing and Tranquility Cove.

They are not aggressive or skittish and are present at all times, but they appear and disappear beneath the waves as they swim. Sometimes they also jump out of the water, which can be a good time to throw a Pokeball. You can also jump with Basculegion to slow down time and make aiming a little easier.

Overqwil is a new Pokémon in Pokémon Legends Arceus. One appears in alpha form in the main questline, but if you didn’t catch it, it can also be obtained by evolving a Qwilfish.

Qwilfish can be found in the Cobalt Coastlands, in the Tranquility Cove, Lunker’s Lair, and Islespy Shore areas. They can also be found in the Obsidian Fieldlands, in the waters around Ramanas Island. They can be found at any time. They are aggressive, so you will probably have to fight to catch one.

Once you have a Qwilfish, make sure it knows the Barb Barrage move. You may have to teach this from the menu if it is not assigned automatically. You’ll also need to make sure it’s mastered.

You can do this by simply leveling up your Qwilfish, or you can give a Mastery Seed to Zisu at the Training Ground. Certain Pokémon drop Mastery Seeds when caught or hit, although they are quite rare.

Once you master Barb Barrage, you will need to use it in Strong Style 20 times. Then Qwilfish will be ready to evolve into Overqwil. You can do it from the menu.

How to complete Request 66 ‘Legend of the Sea’ and get Manaphy

Once you have a Buizel, a Mantyke, and an Overqwil, put them all in your party and head to the Cobalt Coastline. It will have to be at night. Head to the hand-shaped “middle finger” of Sand’s Ridge, where two giant rock spikes emerging from the ocean form a sort of door.

At night, use Basculegion and swim through this door. If you did everything right, there will be a short dialogue saying “You heard something that sounded like a scream and a rock moving in the distance.”

This is the opening of the Seaside Hollow cave, towards the north of the map.

Enter the cave to find a Manaphy and several Phione. At first they will be wandering around and you will have to hit them twice to start the fight. After doing so, you will enter a 4 on 1 battle. The Phione are level 35 and the Manaphy are level 50.

You can defeat Phione if you want, but make sure you catch Manaphy so you can show him to Professor Laventon. If all your Pokémon faint, you will be able to leave the cave and return with new Pokémon and supplies. Some of the defeated Phione will also respawn.

Our Pokémon Legends Arceus walkthrough will help you choose a starter Pokémon and win the Kleavor boss fight. You are also tasked with filling Hisui’s Pokédex by obtaining new evolutions such as Kleavor by evolving into Scyther, Wyrdeer by evolving into Stantler, Sneasler by evolving into Hisui Sneasel, and Overquil by evolving into Hisui Qwilfish. There are a ton of new evolution methods, including some for Eevee evolutions. Take the time to complete Requests too, like The Sea’s Legend, Wurmple’s Evolved! and find Wisp locations. Don’t forget to track all Unown locations as well.

Pokémon Legends Arceus The Legend of the Sea Reward

Once you have captured Manaphy, return to Professor Laventon at either of the camps or back to the Galaxy Hall.

He will be glad that the mystery is solved and will reward you with three comet fragments. These will be placed in your item storage if there is not enough space in your bag.

Comet Shards are incredibly valuable items that can be sold to vendors for 15,000 Pokébucks.
