Dodrio is classified as a Fast Pokémon in Pokémon Unite, so when you play, your main objectives will be to kill low-health enemy Pokémon and take advantage of this opportunity to score quick goals. To do all of this, you’ll need to be familiar with the best items and moves for Dodrio.

Dodrio Build: Our Recommendations for the Best Dodrio Moveset in Pokémon Unite
Dodrio takes on the role of Speedster in Pokémon Unite, allowing this Pokémon’s playstyle to focus on knocking out enemy Pokémon, scoring goals, and retreating from fights. If you haven’t played as a Fast Pokémon yet, Dodrio is a great place to start learning the role.
Looking at Dodrio’s stats, it’s justified that he is primarily used as a sprinter, but he leans heavily towards scoring. His offensive capabilities are not as high as other Speedsters like Absol or Zeraora, but what Dodrio lacks in damage he makes up for in scoring goals. When using Dodrio, you’ll mainly run to help your teammates, take down enemies, and then make a quick retreat. Staying alive is your greatest prerogative so as not to run out of experience or neglect helping your allies throughout the map.
As Dodrio, you’ll need to start in the central area. There’s no need to worry about landing last hits in lane or stopping an ally from stealing wild Pokémon on top or bottom lanes. By defeating the five Pokémon in the central area (Xatu, two Baltoys, Escavalier, and Accelgor), Doduo will reach level 5. Speedsters are efficient in the jungle and you will be able to evolve at a constant pace without much interruption.
Dodrio’s ability: Flee: will increase your movement speed with nearby enemies.
The Dodrio itself has a speed gauge, which fills up as the user moves and at the same time decreases after the user stops moving or slows down. When the Sprint Gauge is full, it will dramatically increase the user’s movement speed and some moves will have different properties, such as dealing increased damage, knocking back enemies, or even performing moves that, when stationary, can be used as projectiles.
When Doduo and Dodrio score goals, they will evenly distribute their score into smaller portions. For example, Doduo will score 10 Aeos Energy by scoring two goals out of five. This passive ability is what makes Dodrio an excellent scorer, as it is not necessary to completely score a 50 goal. Dodrio will split his number as closely as possible and score using smaller numbers. This makes him one of the best scorers in the game by breaking big goals into smaller ones. Items that require stacking, such as attack weight, will not count as stacking unless your third head scores a goal.
You’ll want to reach level 7 early on, so you can have his full moveset at your disposal.
At the beginning of the match, you will need to choose Quick Attack or Peck.
We recommend picking Peck because of how powerful he is and when used with a full Sprint Gauge he will be stronger and push Doduo forward. Since you’ll be heading into the wild Xatu, this ensures you have a full Sprint Gauge with the extra damage from Peck. Doduo will learn Quick Attack at Level 2, so you can increase your Sprint Gauge and movement speed. Quick Attack’s cooldown is reduced if it hits an opposing Pokémon.
At level 5, you can choose between Tri Attack or Drill Peck.
We recommend choosing Drill Peck because when the upgraded version hits a Pokémon, it restores a portion of its HP depending on how much damage it dealt. This HP restoration will cause Dodrio to rarely teleport back to base to heal, as he can almost completely heal himself after using this move on Swablu/Altaria on the map. Being able to heal without teleporting will allow you to weave in and out of battles, charge at enemies, and gain experience by defeating or stealing wild Pokémon. Drill Peck at maxed Sprint Gauge will also cause Dodrio to push Pokémon caught in its move. This move can be used to protect yourself from enemies, sneak up behind them to push them towards your allies, displace Regieleki, or interrupt some of other teams’ Unite moves.
Upon reaching level 7, you will have the option between Agility and Jump Kick.
We recommend choosing Agility because, when used, it will make the user immune to obstacles, increase movement speed for a short time, and charge the Sprint Gauge faster. It’s like having full healing and X speed in one move. Agility combined with Drill Peck will allow you to disrupt Pokémon more often and you can outrun Unite’s moves to get to safety or even get around the map faster to score goals.
When upgraded, Agility will fully increase the speed gauge. It is an incredible move to plunge into skirmishes or escape, when circumstances become too dire for this fragile bird.
Lastly, Dodrio will learn his Unite Move at level 9: Triple Trample.
Dodrio will run towards a specific location of your choosing, damaging and throwing enemies he passes by. Dodrio is immune to all obstacles while Triple Trample is activated. After reaching his location, Dodrio’s attack increases, he receives a shield, and his Sprint Gauge will charge faster for a while.
It’s best to use Triple Trample to escape fights or jump into the fray to help teammates as soon as possible.
Try using Triple Trample to reach a destination in an instant and launch enemies, deal damage, or even reach Rayquaza to steal it from the enemy team. Dodrio will avoid any obstacles in its path, so when choosing a location, be sure to hit as many enemy Pokémon as you can! Sometimes it’s great to use in the immediate vicinity, not just to reach distant areas of the map.
Dodrio’s evolution line explained in Pokémon Unite
Dodrio is placed at the end of a two-stage evolution line, meaning in Pokémon Unite, it starts the game as Doduo.
Doduo will evolve into Dodrio at level 5. In addition to his huge stat boost upon evolving, Dodrio will also gain a 5% critical hit rate upon reaching level 5.
Best items for Dodrio in Pokémon Unite explained
When deciding on items to retain in Pokémon Unite, you should consider items that will increase the Pokémon’s strengths and then mask its weaknesses.
Dodrio will be proficient at defeating/stealing wild Pokémon due to its movement speed and scoring goals through its Run Away and Sprint Gauge. For these reasons, Dodrio will need Float Stone and Razor Claw for his first two slots.
Float Stone greatly increases Dodrio’s movement speed to help increase his Sprint Gauge to push enemies with Drill Peck or dive to perform his Boosted Attack.
Razor Claw gives Dodrio increased damage after using a move and an additional critical hit rate. For example, diving in with a full Sprint Gauge to use Drill Peck to cause disorder and then following up with a more powerful basic attack due to Razor Claw’s effect. At the bottom right of a match, after using a move, you’ll see a small Razor Claw timer letting you know how much time you have to inflict this stronger basic attack.
Focus Band should be the last slot option for Dodrio. Focus Band will provide healing, increased defense, and increased special defense to survive longer in difficult fights. Dodrio, like other Speedsters, is very fragile and needs this element to extend his stay in fights. The upgraded version of Drill Peck will allow for healing, but Focus Band will help cover his weakness.
The additional defense with increased special defense will allow Dodrio to escape, if cornered by other Speedsters with better damage output such as Zeraora or Absol. Getting away with even a small bite of HP or returning to chaos after Focus Band healing will allow you to be a standout Pokémon on the battlefield by running past enemies to score goals.

The best battle items for Dodrio in Pokémon Unite explained
It is best to choose X Speed for Dodrio’s battle item in Pokémon Unite. Dodrio has plenty of mobility options, but X Speed will give this Pokémon additional means to escape or engage enemy Pokémon.
By using X Speed, Dodrio will not lose his Sprint Gauge for a short time and will allow him to use powerful Drill Pecks. X Speed will be great for increasing your Sprint Gauge before reaching your Improved Agility at Level 13. Using X Speed with Agility can help you perform Unite moves from Pokémon like Espeon or Delphox.
How to unlock Dodrio in Pokémon Unite
Dodrio can be purchased for 575 Aeos Gems and will be available to purchase with Aeos Coins one week after its release in Pokémon Unite.
Dodrio’s playstyle is different from other Pokémon, as its heads must be pointed in the direction to perform its Drill Peck or its Boosted Attack. It doesn’t aim its attacks with the right stick like other Pokémon, but with the left stick. This takes quite a bit of time to maneuver and sometimes you may miss moves entirely due to the direction their heads are pointing, but Dodrio is an excellent speedster capable of methodically scoring quick goals with ease.
