Sunset Fireflies in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom can be caught and used to prepare effective elixirs that increase stealth when mixed with monster parts in a pot. Don’t try to add them to meals, we did this and Link ended up eating something he probably shouldn’t have eaten.
Catching any critter or critter in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom comes with its challenges, and for the most part, the biggest challenge is figuring out where they’ll spawn. Additionally, some insects and bugs are skittish, which can make them difficult to catch, especially when enemies are nearby.
We’re here to show you how to get Sunset Fireflies in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and all the Sunset Firefly locations we’ve found so far.

How to get fireflies at dusk in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
There are a few ways to get Sunset Fireflies in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, one way requires patience, a bit of exploration and stealth. The other way simply requires you to visit a specific stable with some rupees. We’ve broken down each way to get a Sunset Firefly below.
Catch fireflies at sunset
If you’ve explored Hyrule at night, you’ve probably already come across some sunset fireflies circling specific areas. You’ll be able to catch Sunset Fireflies if you’re quiet, fast, and if your enemies don’t decide to ruin your night.
If you are trying to catch a sunset firefly, we recommend crouching down and walking very slowly, as these insects are very skittish. The slower you walk towards the firefly, the less noise you will make and this will reduce the risk of scaring it. Also, if you are having difficulty catching one, then it is a good idea to take a food or elixir that increases stealth.
Now, once you get close to a Sunset Firefly, the capture message should appear and all you need to do is quickly press ‘A’ to capture them.
If the capture message does not appear, then you should approach them until it appears. You can do this by continuing to slowly walk towards them or you can approach and run to try and grab them. However, if you do this and fail, the firefly will leave and you may scare away the rest of the area.
Also, if nearby enemies spot you and charge at you or sound their horns, the Sunset Fireflies will get scared and scatter. If this happens, as it happened to us a few times (thanks Bokoblins), we recommend taking out the enemies and the fireflies can return after a while if it’s still dark and the weather remains clear.
Buy fireflies at sunset
If bokoblins and bad weather have thwarted your attempts to catch one, then you can purchase Sunset Fireflies from Beedle in Hyrule Stable. We have marked the exact location on the map below and the coordinates of the Hyrule Stable are 0518, -3442, 0047.

Talk to Beedle (they’re usually hanging around outside the front of the stable) and they’ll sell you Sunset Fireflies for 10 rupees each.
Sunset Firefly Locations in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
The surface area of Hyrule in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is huge, so it makes sense that there would be multiple areas and locations where the Sunset Fireflies will spawn. However, there are some patterns and things to keep in mind that can help you find these valuable errors.
- Good weather – We haven’t found or seen any fireflies at sunset if the weather is stormy or rainy, they only seem to spawn in clear, calm weather. However, if it’s raining in an area where it should be, then hang in there. If the weather improves and it is still dark, fireflies may appear.
- Wet, Forest, Swamp, Swamp – Evening fireflies seem to like to hang around dense forest areas, wetland areas, and swampy/swampy areas. We haven’t found any spawning spots in open grasslands yet, so if you want any, it will help to stick to any of the area types above.
- Deep Night: We’ve encountered a few fireflies before midnight in Hyrule, but we often find large groups of them between midnight and 3 a.m.
Below we’ve listed all of the Sunset Firefly locations in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom that we’ve found so far, and we’ll be adding them to this list as we explore more of the Kingdom at night.
- Faron Grasslands – South Hyrule.
- Eastern Necluda – Southeast Hyrule.
- Hopper Pond – South of Lookout Landing and in the southern part of Hyrule Field.
- Spirit Forest – South of Lookout Landing and in the southern part of Hyrule Field.
- Fort Hateno – West of Hateno Village and south of Kakariko Village.

- pond first Southwest of Hateno Village.
- Lanayru wetlands – East of Lookout Landing.

It is important to remember that evening fireflies will not always appear and you may have to look around each area until you find them.
