Chapter 3 introduced a new Fortnite map and as we reach Chapter 3, Season 4, this map contains a wide range of named locations and landmarks for you to explore.
When you first start playing Fortnite, the map will be a slate gray color, but by visiting named locations and landmarks you will gradually restore its glory.
While finding the named locations is pretty easy (thanks to the question marks), locating the landmarks is a little trickier.
Please note that this particular challenge can no longer be completed. What’s new? Chapter 4 Season 2 has arrived! New additions include Grind Rails and Kinetic Blades, along with the new Battle Pass, character collection, and Eren Jaeger skin. It’s a good idea to know how to get XP quickly in Fortnite.

What’s new on the Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4 map?
At the beginning of Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4, a series of changes were implemented to the map, which you can see below:
How to Reveal Named Locations and Landmarks on the Fortnite Map
Whenever a new named location is added to the Fortnite map, or one is significantly modified, it will appear grayed out, allowing you to easily identify the new area. Sometimes there may even be a small gray spot for a new notable milestone. Newcomers to Fortnite, however, will find that their map is completely grayed out.
You will also receive a small amount of XP when you visit a named location or landmark for the first time.
To see the map in all its true glory, you must visit each of the named locations and major landmarks, either on foot or by landing from the Battle Bus.
We recommend visiting the named locations first, as it will allow you to narrow down the landmarks you need to visit based on the small gray dots left on the map.

At the start of each Fortnite season, we can usually expect to see a selection of new named locations. New named locations may even appear throughout a season!
Five new named locations were added to the map in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4:
- Cloudy Condominiums
- Fort Jonesy
- Herald Shrine
- Bright Lagoon
- Shimmering Sanctuary
Outside of these new locations, there are 11 named locations returning in Chapter 3, Season 4:
- Chonker Circuit
- Rabbit Crossroads
- Greasy Grove
- Traffic jam crossing
- delirious cave

- Rocky Reels

- Sleepy sound
- Synapse station
- leaning towers
The appearance of named places can change between seasons or even during them.
Fortnite Landmarks Explained
Landmarks in Fortnite are smaller locations spread throughout the map and usually contain a small location or notable object for you to explore. Sometimes they will be noticeable enough to justify having a small gray dot on the map for you to fill in.
Naturally, you’ll find landmarks simply by exploring the map, and just like with named locations, you’ll earn some XP by finding them.
Part of the fun with landmarks is finding them randomly, but if you want to complete the map completely, we recommend visiting all of the named locations first. This will leave gray dots on the map wherever a notable landmark is located, making it much easier to locate!
