Elden Ring Crystalian tips and strategy

Elden Ring Crystalian tips and strategy

Crystalian are optional encounters located throughout the open world of Elden Ring.

The Crystalian actually takes the form of two bosses that you will have to face at once, no matter where you fight them in Elden Ring.

While you can take on the Crystalian on your own, we recommend using some cooperation for the tough fight ahead, or even a Spirit Ash Summon to help you on your way to killing the boss.

How to prepare for Crystalian

There are three different versions of the Crystalian located in Elden Ring: in the Crystal Cave Academy, the Atlus Tunnel, and the Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel. Don’t worry, though, because the tips we’re going to give you apply to the boss no matter which iteration of him you’re fighting.

To fight Crystalian, we recommend using one of three options. You can use powerful ranged magic attacks against the boss duo, use blunt weapons, or weapons with blood-based special attacks.

In fact, we recommend going with the latter of the options, because the Crystalian is weak to bludgeoning weapons, but is also weak to blood damage, and combining the two is a great recipe for success.

Crystalian Tips: How to Beat Crystalian

Whenever you face the Crystalian, you will fight two bosses at once. A duo wielding a spear and a staff are found in the Crystal Cave Academy, while a duo wielding a spear and a ringed sword are found in the Atlus Tunnel.

The only exception to this rule is the Crystalian found in the Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel, who fights alone with a Ringblade.

All crystalline enemies have a spin attack that you’ll need to watch out for. When the boss places their hands behind them, they are about to launch into the air and spin all over the arena, quickly cutting you down.

They back away quite a bit during this phase, although if you get caught a little close to them the attack is relatively easy to dodge as it doesn’t come back more than once.

The Crystalian Spear mainly uses stabbing attacks to attack you. These can be stopped completely if you’re using a shield or dodge towards the boss to land a quick hit or two after they’re done with the attack.

It’s also a good idea to jump and hit the Crystalian’s head, because this is much more likely to stagger him than a conventional melee attack.

The Ringleaf Crystalian attacks from afar, and is someone to watch out for. They can launch circular blades at you from the side or send a circular saw-like blade at you from the ground.

We recommend dodging these attacks towards the boss, as if you are using a heavy bludgeoning weapon or one with a blood attack, you can stagger the enemy relatively easily with a strong attack.

You may not be surprised to learn that the Crystalian with the staff uses crystal-based magic against you. Mainly, the boss will summon a large amount of crystals that will fall on you at once if you stay too close to him for too long, and will also fire a flurry of crystals in a fan formation at you from a distance.

If you’re fighting the Crystalian on your own, it might be a good idea to take out the one with the staff first.

It’s a very good idea to use an Ash Summon with the Crystalian, if you haven’t already summoned another player to the fight. We recommend going with the wolves if possible, as they will distract one character while you can attack the other.

Once you’ve decided on a starting class and a starting keepsake item, you first need to figure out how to level up, how to respec, and how to use Ashes of War. Do you need any directions from there? Our Elden Ring walkthrough and Elden Ring boss order can help you know where to go next, but we also recommend looking for Golden Seeds, Sacred Tears, Crystal Tears, Talismans, and some of our top weapon and armor picks. If you are nearing the end of the game, we can help you with the Volcano Manor and Rykard quest, the Haligtree Secret Medallion locations, solving Ordina, the Liturgical Town puzzle, Millicent’s quest, Commander Niall, Morgott, Godskin Duo , Maliketh and Malenia.

crystal reward

When the fight with Crystalian is over, you will get some rewards depending on the location you were in:

  • The Crystal Cave Crystalian Academy rewards you with 3,300 runes, as well as the crystal release spell.
  • The Atlus Tunnel gives you 1,350 runes and the Somberstone Miner’s Ball Bearing.
  • The Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel iteration will reward you with 3000 runes and the Blacksmithing Stone Miner’s Ball Bearing.

Now that you’ve taken on one or possibly more Crystalian iterations, it’s time to return to the open world of Elden Ring for more adventures.
