Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Cascarrafa Gym, including how to beat Water Gym Leader Kofu and reach Port Marinada

You have to fight Kofu, the leader of the Water-type gym of Cascarafa, during Victory Road in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

However, before fighting him in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you must complete Rumpel’s Gym Test by traveling to Port Marinada to return Kofu’s wallet to him.

Below, we cover how to get to Cascarafa and how to beat Aquatic Gym Leader Kofu, so you can add another Gym Badge to your collection.

How to get to Cascarrafa in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

If you haven’t unlocked any Pokémon Centers near the city yet, the easiest way to get to Cascarafa in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is to travel the path north of Cortondo, passing the river through the Western Province (Area One). It’s best to fly to a Pokémon Center here if you can.

If you’re heading towards the Team Star Dark Crew base, you’ll just have to head north a little from here to reach the water town of Cascarafa.

If you’re getting lost, remember to set Cascarafa as a destination on your map to ensure it appears as a waypoint on your minimap. Once you are there, you will find the Gym in the southern part of the town, but you will need to take an elevator to its location.

How to get to Puerto Marinada in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet for the Cascarrafa Gym challenge

The Cascarafa Gym challenge tasks you with returning Kofu’s wallet by arriving in the city of Port Marinada.

To get to Port Marinada in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet you must first cross the Asado Desert. The easiest way to cross the desert is to exit through the northern entrance to Cascarrafa and then head northwest through the sand until you reach the exit on the other side.

We recommend setting it as your destination, so you can navigate to it easily. Of course, you can do something else and visit the port at another time if you wish.

When you get close enough to the port, you will see Kofu. He won’t wait to talk to you, but will run off towards the market, so continue towards Port Marinada to continue this water gym challenge.

Kofu is located within the main market on the western side of the port. However, when you talk to him, Gym Trainer Hugo will stop you and start a battle.

Here’s how to beat Coach Hugo:

Pokemon Level Guy Weaknesses
float 28 Water Electric and Grass
Pitcher 28 Water Electric and Grass

You will receive 3920 prize money for defeating Hugo and now you can give Kofu his wallet back. He will then ask you to bid on some seaweed for him and will give you a cash prize of 50,000. We had to bid 50,000 to win it, but if you can do it with less, you can keep what’s left of his money.

Once Kofu’s wallet is returned and the auction is over, you must return to Cascarafa to face Kofu in the water gym!

Our The Teal Mask walkthrough will help you complete the first part of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, but make sure you know how to start it first. When visiting Kitakami it is a good idea to know how to get Sinistea, Dipplin and The Loyal Three. Our Pokémon Scarlet and Violet walkthrough can take you through the main campaign, including The First Day of School, Victory Road, Starfall Street, Path of Legends, and, when you’re ready, The Way Home and the final boss. Elsewhere, we can help with the normal gym test secret item menu, version differences, the best scarlet and violet starter, XP farming, shiny Pokémon, and learning to fly, swim, climb, and run. When it comes to individual Pokémon, we can help with Gimmighoul, Ditto, Bellibolt, Pawmot, Scovillain, Frigibax, Brambleghast, Annihilape, Farigiraf, Dudunsparce, Lycanrock, Armarouge, and Ceruledge.

How to Beat Aquatic Gym Leader Kofu in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Kofu, the leader of Rumbledown’s gym, loves Water-type Pokémon, and his team reflects that.

Water type Pokémon are weak to Grass and Electric type Pokémon.

This means that you will easily defeat Kofu if you choose Sprigatito as your starting Pokémon. If you didn’t, then it’s worth catching a Pawmi: this Electric-type Pokémon can be found near the beginning of the game, in southern Paldea.

Remember, like all Gym Leaders, Kofu will Terastalize his last Pokémon, so even if it isn’t a Water-type at first, it will become one.

Kofu’s Pokémon team is:

Pokemon Level Guy Weaknesses
veluza 29 Water/Psychic Bug, Dark, Electric, Grass and Ghost
Wugtrio 29 Water Electric and Grass
crabminable 30 Fighting/IceTerra Type: Water Fairy, Flying, Fighting, Fire, Psychic and SteelTerra Type: Electric and Grass

Terastalized Crabominable.

For defeating Kofu, you will receive a cash prize of 5400, TM022 Ice Water, and a Gym Badge. Increasing the level cap so that Pokémon listen to you and are easier to catch will depend on where you are in the Victory Road story.

Also, depending on where you are in Victory Road, you may have a battle with Nemona after defeating Kofu.

Who will you face next on Victory Road? Will it be Katy, Brassius, Iono, Larry, Ryme, Tulip or Grusha? Or maybe you’re ready to fight the Elite Four and the ultimate champion! If you want to take a break from the gyms, you can always tackle the Path of Legends and Starfall Street stories.
