Pokémon Legends Arceus Kleavor boss fight: How to beat Kleavor

Kleavor is the first of several boss fights you’ll encounter in the main story of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, appearing during Mission 7, Lord of the Woods Frenzy.

It’s a relatively simple battle, but since it’s the first battle of its kind in Pokémon, it can still be a little difficult to adapt to. With that in mind, below we’ll explain exactly how to beat Kleavor and quell his unhappy frenzy.

How to beat Kleavor in Pokémon Legends: Arceus

The Kleavor boss fight is a good example of the other noble boss battles in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Kleavor boss fight explained

Basically, it works like this: Kleavor will start with a yellow health bar and try to attack your trainer character, and you will only be able to cast a special item called Balms, of which you have an infinite supply in return.

If you hit Kleavor with enough balms (and avoid getting knocked out) you will eventually have the opportunity to go from throwing balms to throwing a ball with your Pokémon, entering into a brief battle with it, where it has a new green health bar. Defeat him in that brief battle by lowering the green bar to zero, you’ll stun him, the bar will turn yellow again, and you’ll get a window to freely throw a bunch of salves at him without him attacking you, first. he starts moving again.

In other words, the fight goes like this: Dodge Kleavor’s attacks while throwing Balms whenever you get the chance. Kleavor will be stunned and you can throw a Pokémon to fight him. Defeat him in battle and you can throw more balms, then he will start attacking you again and repeat! These are our tips for beating Kleavor himself.

How to beat Kleavor

Kleavor has several attacks worth memorizing: a charge attack, in which he runs towards you quickly; a jump attack, which causes a rock pillar to emerge from beneath the ground; and a spinning attack that deals damage in a circle around him.

This is what Kleavor looks like as he prepares his three types of attacks: run, jump and spin.

You can use the charge attack to your advantage: move out of the way by pressing Y, and Kleavor can crash into a wall, stunning himself and allowing you a free window to cast Balms on him.

Kleavor always “charges” a little before attacking you. Watch for when he stops, preparing to attack, and prepare to dodge. after starts to move. Dodge too soon and he’ll still hit you.

Your dodges have something called “i-frames”; This means that while your character dodges, he is completely invincible. While you’re in mid-dodge you can’t take any damage!

Have a Water-type Pokémon, like Buizel (or the Water-type starter Oshawott), ready to be the first in your party, as Water-type attacks are super effective! Rock types like Geodude and the Rollout move are also good options.

If you’re having trouble hitting Balms, remember that holding ZR for a moment will “charge” your throw, making it travel farther and faster than tapping it quickly. And ZL will help you focus your aim!

When Kleavor is stunned, you can run close to him to quickly throw a lot of salves, without having to hold ZR to throw them further away. Use it to make a lot of throws quickly by tapping ZR very fast!

Our Pokémon Legends Arceus walkthrough will help you choose a starter Pokémon and win the Kleavor boss fight. You are also tasked with filling Hisui’s Pokédex by obtaining new evolutions such as Kleavor by evolving into Scyther, Wyrdeer by evolving into Stantler, Sneasler by evolving into Hisui Sneasel, and Overquil by evolving into Hisui Qwilfish. There are a ton of new evolution methods, including some for Eevee evolutions. Take the time to complete Requests too, like The Sea’s Legend, Wurmple’s Evolved! and find Wisp locations. Don’t forget to track all Unown locations as well.

Other things you should know about the Kleavor boss fight

There are a few other things to keep in mind when facing Kleavor in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Kleavor is level 18 when you fight him. If you’re within a few levels of Kleavor (around level 15 and up) then you should be able to take him on, as there are only a small amount of battles involved and the super effective attacks will deal a lot of damage.

Kleavor’s type is Bug/Rock, meaning he will take double damage from Water, Rock, and Steel-type attacks, and 0.5 times the damage from Normal and Poison-type attacks.

He knows four moves at the time of battle: Double Hit, Stealth Rock, Aerial Ace and Air Slash.

Like all noble Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, you cannot catch this Kleavor at the end of the battle. But you can get your own Kleavor, of course, by evolving a Scyther, which can be caught in the nearby forest.

Defeating Kleavor will grant you a special item: the Insect Plate.
