Ultima is the most powerful weapon in Final Fantasy 16, but you must complete the game once before you can begin the journey required to create it.
Even then, it’s not clear what exactly you need to do so, so here’s how to get the Ultima weapon in Final Fantasy 16, including how to get Gotterdammerung Reforged and how to get Everdark Reforged.

How to get the Ultima weapon in Final Fantasy 16
You must complete the game at least once before you can obtain the Ultima weapon in Final Fantasy 16, as it is only available to craft in Final Fantasy mode.
After completing the game, select ‘New Game +’ from the main menu to find Final Fantasy mode. All of your Eikon items, gear, and abilities are retained in Final Fantasy mode, but the enemies are much more difficult. The description claims that Ultima will help you against these tougher enemies, but that’s a bit misleading, as the weapon isn’t available until near the end of the story.

In fact, you get the blueprint to create Ultima from the very beginning of the game, but you need to defeat Barnabas during ‘The Last King’ quest to get the final material needed to create Ultima. This is near the end of the game, so we recommend leaving the more difficult manhunts and sidequests until last, so you can equip Ultima to make fights easier.
When you first look at the blueprints for the Ultima weapon at Blackthorne’s smithy, you’ll see that two of the materials are unknown.

To create the Ultima weapon in Final Fantasy 16 you need:
- x1 Declaration of Creation
- Gotterdammerung (reforged)
- Everdark (reforged)
Statement of Creation is already in your inventory, but reforged versions of the Everdark and Gotterdammerung swords take a long time to get.
How to get Gotterdammerung Reforged in Final Fantasy 16
You must complete the ‘Blacksmith’s Blues IV’ side quest to get the blueprint for creating Gotterdammerung (Reforged) in Final Fantasy 16. This requires completing the first three Blacksmith’s Blues side quests first.
As long as you’ve completed the previous ones, here’s when each Blacksmith’s Blues quest will be available in Final Fantasy 16:
- Blacksmith’s Blues: After starting the main quest ‘Here Be Monsters’
- Blacksmith’s Blues II: After completing the “Quitting Steam III” part of the main quest “Out of the Shadow”
- Blacksmith’s Blues III: After completing the ‘Like Father, Like Daughter’ portion of the main quest ‘A Song of Hope’
- Blacksmith’s Blues IV: After starting the main quest ‘Across the Narrow’

How to get Everdark Reforged in Final Fantasy 16
To get Everdark (Reforged) you must defeat all the bosses in the story, including Odin. This is because you need the materials that bosses drop during the story to craft the six swords that appear before Everdark. They’re all part of the same crafting path, so you need Stormcry (Reforged) to make Flametongue (Reforged), which then produces Levinbolt (Reforged), and so on, all the way to Everdark (Reforged).

In the same order that you can make them, here are all the swords you need to craft first to get Everdark (Reforged) in Final Fantasy 16.
- Stormcry (Reforged) – Defeat Garuda
- Tongue of Fire (Reforged) – Defeat Infernal Eikon
- Levinbolt (Reforged): Defeat the Republican War Panther.
- Grindstone (Reforged) – Defeat the Titan
- Brightburn (Reforged) – Defeat Bahamut
- Icebrand (Reforged): Complete the main quest “Through the Maelstrom”
Once you have Icebrand (Reforged) and defeat Barnabas and Odin, you will get the Flawless Dark Shard which you need to create Everdark (Reforged).
If you also have Gotterdammerung (Reforged) after crafting Everdark (Reforged), now you can finally get the Ultima weapon by crafting it at the Blackthorne Smithy!
