Mega Latias back to the world of Pokémon Go! Unfortunately, you can’t run him around the map like you can in the main series games, but he’s still a great addition to your team and worth getting if you can.
To get Mega Latias, you must Mega Evolve a Latias in your Pokémon Go storage using Latias Mega Energy, which is primarily obtained through Mega Raids. This means that you must first defeat the Mega Eon Gen 3 Pokémon if you want to add it to your Mega Pokédex.
Like most Mega Raids, this is a difficult Pokémon to take on solo without maxed out perfect counters. To make life easier, we recommend teaming up with other trainers who understand Mega Latias’ weaknesses and can provide the best Mega Latias counters.

Cons and weaknesses of Mega Latias in Pokémon Go
Below you can find Mega Latias’ weaknesses, with some countersuggestions, to help you defeat it in Pokémon Go:
Mega Latias
- Mega Latias Type – Dragon and Psychic
- Mega Latias is weak against Bug, Dark, Dragon, Fairy, Ghost, and Ice types.
- Mega Latias Mega Counters: Mega Gengar, Mega Gardevoire, and of course Mega Latios. Mega Salamence is also an option, but like Mega Latias, it will be naturally weak to Latios.
- Mega Latias Counters: – Diaga, Rayquaza, Salamence, Zekrom, Hydreigon, Garchomp, Palkia, Giratina (Origin, ideally), and Reshiram are your best options here, but all of them are obviously weak to Dragons. If you want something less exposed, you’re looking at Zacian, Darkrai, Gengar, Hoopa (Unbound), and Primal Groudon running Dragon Tail.
- Other Mega Latias Notes: Dragon is the type of choice when fighting Mega Latias, but it carries the risk of mutually assured destruction. If you don’t have many strong Dragon-type Pokémon, or you just don’t want to use your body weight on Revives, perhaps consider Ghost, Dark, Ice, or Fairy types to beat Latios.

These are the CP ranges you can expect to see from Mega Latias in Pokémon Go raids:
- Raid Boss CP – 80545 CP
- Mega Latias Max CP – 5428 CP
- CP range when captured: 1921 to 2006 CP
- Maximum CP driven by weather (windy) when caught: 2402 to 2507 CP

Mega Latias move set in Pokémon Go
Mega Latias, like all Pokémon in Pokémon Go, can use a variety of fast and charged moves. Its best moveset is Dragon Breath and Outrage, leaning on the Dragon type, but if you need another psychic attacker, Zen Headbutt and Psychic is the way to go.

Shiny Mega Latios in Pokémon Go
Shiny versions of Latios and Latias are available in the world of Pokémon Go, meaning their Mega Shinies are also in the game for those lucky enough to catch them.
Interestingly, while Latios, Latias, Shiny Latios, and Shiny Latias take on different colors (blue, red, green, and gold respectively), Mega Latios and Mega Latias are almost identical. They are both purple and white, with the same markings on their arms; the only difference is the color of the Pokémon’s iris, Mega Latios has red eyes and Mega Latias has orange eyes.
This similarity and difference carries over to the Mega glitters, which simply change purple for green. Interestingly, this makes Mega Latias look a little more like a Mega Evolved Latios, but what can you do!?
