The first Friendship Day is themed around grass-type Pokémon and there’s even a Collection Challenge you can complete during the event.

However, you may find this collection challenge quite a challenge as it will only be available during Friendship Day.

Tips for completing the Friendship Day Collection Challenge in Pokémon Go

Here are some tips to help you complete the grass-type Friendship Day Collection Challenge in Pokémon Go:

  • The most important fact to remember about this Collection Challenge is that it is only available between 11am and 2pm (local time) on Saturday, April 24, and therefore we recommend completing it at the beginning of the event.
  • Friendship Day is the perfect time to use a lucky egg or two, especially when you complete the collection challenge!
  • Use an Incense if you are having trouble finding a particular Pokémon, as it will bring more Pokémon to your specific location. During Friendship Day, Incense will last for three hours.

You will need to capture these Pokémon to complete the Collection Challenge.

  • You can also place a Mossy Lure module at a PokéStop, which will attract grass-type Pokémon to that particular location and, like incense, will last for three hours.
  • Don’t forget to use berries, especially Razz Berries, to make the Pokémon easier to catch.

Friendship Day bonuses in Pokémon Go explained

In addition to the Collection Challenge, you can enjoy a host of bonuses during Friendship Day in Pokémon Go.

The best thing about this is the increased chance of receiving a lucky Pokémon through a trade, which will be available until 5 pm (local time), with a friend and the range of the trade increased to 40 km.

You’ll also be able to enjoy a triple catch XP bonus throughout the event, and grass-type Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild.

Finally, both the incense and decoy modules will last for three hours if activated during Friendship Day.

The Season of Adventure Abundance is here! You can also work on the Timed Investigation: Master Ball mission and compete in Go Battle League. Be sure to compete in Shadow Raids, complete routes, use Daily Adventure Incense for a chance to encounter Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres. This incense can also give you encounters with other rare Pokémon in Pokémon Go.

How the Friendship Day collection challenge works in Pokémon Go

Collection challenges in Pokémon Go launched in January 2021 and run in conjunction with certain in-game events. In each collection challenge you will be able to capture a number of Pokémon that, thanks to the event, appear more frequently in the wild.

Once you have completed the Collection Challenge by capturing all of the required Pokémon, you will be rewarded with a number of items and progress towards your Elite Collector medal.

The Friendship Day Collection Challenge takes place as part of the first Friendship Day event and will only be available on Saturday, April 24 from 11am to 2pm (local time).

The Collection Challenge can be found in the ‘Today View’, accessed by pressing the Field Research button (the little binoculars) in the bottom right corner of the screen. Depending on whether you have been analyzing your current field or special research tasks, you may need to scroll left.

After accessing the ‘Today View’, you will find a list of the Pokémon you need to capture to complete the Collection Challenge. Catching a Pokémon in the Collection Challenge rooster will mark it off the list to keep track of which ones you’ve caught and which ones you haven’t.

Pokémon will be removed from the collection challenge list as you obtain them.

Remember: the collection challenge must be completed before the associated event ends and disappears forever.

Have fun during the first Friendship Day!
