Pokémon Go Celebi quest – every step in A Ripple in Time

Pokémon Go’s Celebi is the second Mythical Pokémon in the game and was first made available in a way unlike any other creature we’ve seen so far.

Like Mew before it, it is now available as part of a special research mission, where players must complete a series of objectives as part of a story-based quest line.

However, there’s another key difference: the mission debuted first for attendees at this year’s Go Fest in Chicago.

Celebi has also released its shiny form in Pokémon Go. Shiny Celebi was first released during the December 2020 Secrets of the Jungle event, which unlocked the Distracted by Something Shiny special research quest.

How the Celebi ‘A Ripple in Time’ event works in Pokémon Go

Catching Celebi works very similarly to what Mew did in the first half of 2018, and will be available as part of a special research quest line called ‘A Ripple in Time’.

To begin, you must have completed the third set of Mew’s ‘A Mythical Discovery’ tasks. Like Mew, there is no time limit to complete the questline, so take your time!

Celebi also received its shiny form in Pokémon Go. This form was first available during the December 2020 Secrets of the Jungle event, and if you played Pokémon Go during this event, you unlocked the Distracted by Something Shiny special research quest. Completing this quest line will allow you to catch the shiny Celebi!

The mission is divided into eight stages, with multiple challenges to complete per stage. By completing each step of the special research mission, players will receive the mythical creature as a reward.

Although they are similar to field research missions, the specific steps are fixed for each player, so if you don’t mind spoilers, you can plan ahead and learn what you need to do to complete them all and capture Celebi, which It’s useful as you go. You’ll have to take on raid and gym battles along the way.

If you’ve already caught Celebi participating in the Chicago Go Fest, completing the many tasks will award you candy to help power up Celebi.

How Celebi First Debuted in Pokémon Go

Before August, only attendees of this year’s Pokémon Go Fest in Chicago were available to catch Celebi.

Prior to the July event, data mining (via The Silph Road subreddit) had revealed a special research mission for attendees, which confirmed how the following happened:

  • A total of five steps to complete.
  • Challenges to hatch an egg, win Buddy Candy, and visit PokéStops
  • Catching Unown, Plusle and Minun
  • The text of the story hints at Celebi’s time travel abilities.

Once attendees registered for the event (players must spin a PokéStop and scan a barrack to register their account as an attendee) they were able to begin.

Another indication that Celebi would be at Go Fest is through a sponsored tweet from Mystic7, which shows a silhouette of the Pokémon in an invitation to the event:

The datamines turned out to be true, and Celebi was able to be captured after a day of playing:

The Season of Adventure Abundance is here! The Detective Pikachu Returns event is currently underway. You can also work on the Timed Investigation: Master Ball mission and compete in Go Battle League. Be sure to compete in Shadow Raids, complete routes, use Daily Adventure Incense for a chance to encounter Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres. This incense can also give you encounters with other rare Pokémon in Pokémon Go.

Celebi Statistics and What Else You Need to Know About Celebi in Pokémon Go

Celebi is the second Mythical Pokémon in Pokémon Go and the final Pokédex entry in Gen 2. While Legendary Pokémon are powerful beasts that are captured in-game through specific steps, Mythical Pokémon can only be added to the game by acquiring them through of real-world giveaways. and later in the series, online events.

Celebi is both a psychic type and a grass type, leaving it open to fire, insect, darkness, and ghost attacks. Between that and some pretty disappointing stats, Celebi continues the trend of mythical creatures not being great competitive Pokémon in Pokémon Go.

However, its rarity alone makes it worth the time and effort to complete the Special Research questline. After all, there is no way to negotiate it.

There is also more to come. Like Legendary Pokémon, each generation adds one or two of these creatures, such as Jirachi and Deoxys from Gen 3, and it is assumed that these creatures will be added to the game as part of their own special research quests at some point in the future. .
