How ‘A Worrying Situation’ works in Pokémon Go

Research missions, which allow you to complete objectives for rewards, were introduced to Pokémon Go in March 2018.

There are two types of research missions: field research and special research. While standard field research tasks offer players a variety of challenges that they can complete whenever they want, special research tasks are the same for all players and have a set order.

Similar to the Special Research quest lines for Mew, Celebi, and Jump-Start Research, A Troubling Situation is a series of story-based Special Research tasks.

Just as Jump-Start Research was created to introduce new players to the various features of Pokémon Go, the purpose of A Troubling Situation is to introduce them to Team Go Rocket Invasion. Each step covers an important part of this new Pokémon Go feature, such as purifying Shadow Pokémon.

The mission is divided into four steps, each consisting of three individual challenges. You will be rewarded for each individual challenge and overall step you complete.

There are no restrictions on when you can complete A Troublesome Situation, so visit the Research Tasks tab to start battling in Team Go Rocket.

Other things you should know about a worrying situation in Pokémon Go

  • Keep an eye out for invaded PokéStops – they have a faded purple tint and are shaking!
  • Purifying Pokémon costs both Candy and Stardust, so be sure to stock up on both by capturing plenty of Pokémon. Do you want to know what shadow Pokémon are out there? Then check out our Shadow Pokémon guide.
  • Remember to stock up on potions and revives before taking on a Team Go Rocket Grunt. Shadow Pokémon are very strong compared to normal Pokémon: you don’t want to be left out of a battle.
  • You can take on Team Go Rocket Grunts as an individual player or as part of a team, so if you’re stuck on a particular Grunt, look for other Trainers to help you out.
  • A good amount of Razz and Nanab Berries will help you catch those troublesome Shadow Pokémon.
