Monster Hunter World’s Horizon Zero Dawn event lets you unlock a unique set of Aloy armor for a limited time.
In a previous event, you unlocked a Watcher Palico, also related to Guerrilla Games’ PS4 exclusive.

What you need to know about the Monster Hunter World Horizon Zero Dawn event
The special event has a few stipulations:
- PS4 Exclusive: Since Horizon Zero Dawn is a PS4 exclusive game, this event and its related rewards are only available on PS4. Sorry, Xbox players!
- Limited Availability: The first part of the event, The Lessons of the Wild, was only available until February 8, 2018, while the quest for Aloy’s set, The Proving, will be similarly limited and will run from February 28, 2018. 2018 until the end of March 15. (midnight UK time).
- Rank Requirement: You must have a Hunter Rank of 11 to participate. This is a high rank quest and you should be strong enough to handle it when you face Anjanath at high rank. Our Monster Hunter World walkthrough to see how far you need to progress in the game, if you’re curious.
Although the good news is that both ‘The Lessons of the Wild’ and ‘The Proving’ will return in the future, so don’t stress if you’re not high enough the first time.
How to beat The Proving and get Aloy’s armor set
To get the Aloy Armor set, make sure you have the latest patch installed and are connected online. Next, head to Astera and investigate the Quest board. Now scroll down and select Events. Next, choose the ‘The Test’ event.
The Proving will see you take on a slightly more powerful Anjanath than usual. You will have already had to face an Anjanath as part of the story, so you will know what to expect, but between it being a high-ranking variant and a bit more difficult for the event, we recommend that you come with the best weapons. and armor that you can.
We also strongly recommend that you send an SOS flare. There should be no shortage of players who want to grind materials for Aloy’s armor set, and that will make your life considerably easier (and the task at hand will be much faster).
Otherwise, the encounter plays out much like any other Anjanath hunt. Once you’re done, you’ll receive the Nova Brave Trophy material as one of your mission rewards. You’ll need four of these to build Aloy’s entire armor set and another two to get Aloy’s bow.
So, assuming you get all the Anjanath materials you need the first time, that’s six replays of the quest to get everything you need. It’s a bit complicated, but it’s worth remembering that doing this is useful for a few other things:
- Each time you complete the quest, you’ll gain experience toward your Hunter Rank (a number that’s practically invisible until you finish the main story, but it’s certainly there and increases in the background).
- In addition to Anjanath’s materials, you will get other useful items. For us we have Advanced Armor Spheres, Mysterious Feystone and Monster Hardbone, which will help you build other weapons and armor sets.
- It could be a good opportunity to complete some bounties for brute wyverns (of which Anjanath is a part), high-ranking hunts, and the Ancient Forest.
Is Aloy’s armor good in Monster Hunter World?
Unlike the Palico Watcher set from a previous event, Aloy’s armor is a high-rank variant, meaning it’s more viable for the high-rank campaign.
Although it probably won’t take you to the end of the game and you can’t use each piece individually (since it must be equipped as a set), it’s a decent set and fairly easy to build for a starter or mid-High set. Rank encounters.
Additionally, when appropriate limited-time event quests arrive, it is possible to craft Aloy’s layered armor from it, maintaining your armor’s stats and Aloy’s appearance.
It also comes with a handful of useful perks, considering the features of Aloy and Horizon Zero Dawn:

| Sling Capacity | Increases the carrying capacity of slinger ammunition obtained in the field. |
Plus, whether you’re male or female, equipping the set will transform you into Aloy, which is a nice bonus. It’s a nice collectible either way, and as mentioned in the previous section, you’ll also get a few other items along the way to help you out.
How to complete the Lessons of the Wild event and unlock Watcher Lens
Please note that the following event has concluded and will appear again in the game in the future.
To start the event, make sure you have the latest patch installed and go online.
Next, head to Astera and investigate the Quest board. Now scroll down and select Events. Next, choose the Lessons from the Wild event.
The search itself is very simple. It is set in the arena and you must kill 8 Barnos. These are monstrous little drakes that only take a few hits to take down.
When you get close, they should swoop towards your position, allowing you to start with a melee weapon.
Otherwise, you have the benefit of having a Tzitzi-Ya-Ku there with you. Its blinding attack can knock down any floating drakes, so use it to your advantage for an easy kill. You don’t have to kill the Tzitzi-Ya-Ku, so feel free to ignore it.
There will be more Barnos than you need to finish the quest (if you run out, more should appear in other parts of the arena). Once you have killed the eighth, the mission will be over.
Upon completion, you will receive a surveillance lens. This is one of the components needed to craft the Watcher Palico gear.
Head to Smithy, then Forge Palico Equipment and you will have two options:
- Full Armor Sets: Felyne Watcher Head + Body (Watcher Lens x2, Dragonite Ore x3)
- Forge Palico Equipment: Observer Grinder (Observer Lens x1, Power Bag x1)
This means that in addition to the bonus materials, you’ll need to run this quest a total of three times to get enough Watcher Lens materials to build everything.
It’ll be worth it, though: in addition to being one of the most unique Palico armors in the game, it stacks up pretty well against armor you might have in this range, with a combined defense of 218.
