Monster Hunter World Bones is one of the many components you will need to build weapons and armor pieces for your Hunter and Palico.
However, there are a variety of types, such as Monster Slogbone, Monster Bone M, Monster Bone Plus, Warped Bone, and Coral Bone, and it’s not immediately clear which areas or activities they come from.

What are Monster Hunter World bones used for?
Bones are one of the many classifications of components that you will collect while playing Monster Hunter World and are used as a component to build weapons and armor pieces.
You can get them from the following:
- Piles of bones
- Hunting Rewards
- Tail Raiders Safari
Bones primarily come from Bone Piles, which are piles of shiny bones in each of the game’s hunting areas. Simply walk up to it, press the button it tells you, and look for food. You get three bones per stack.
If you’re specifically looking for bone piles, remember that you can use your map to locate the one you want and click the right stick to have your Scoutflies take you to them.
Unlike minerals, there is no difference between bone stacks within an area, although each area can give you different types of bones.
That said, Bone Piles will only get you so far, as the most lucrative Bones for late and high-rank upgrades come from completing hunts.
How to get Monster Bone S, Monster Bone M, Monster Bone L and Monster Bone Plus / Monster Bone+
Despite being part of the same “family”, they all come from different sources:
- Monster Bone S Location: Bone Piles (Any Area, Low Rank, and High Rank)
- Monster Bone M Location: Low rank quest reward (Pukei-Pukei, Barroth, Tobi-Kadachi), obtained from corpses
- Monster Bone L Location: Reward for completing the quest (Anjanath, Rathian, Tzitzu-Ya-Ku, Radobaan)
- Monster Bone + / Monster Bone Plus Location: Reward for completing the quest (Legiana, Odogaron, Rathalos, Diablos)
How to get Ancient Bone, Rock Bone, Coral Bone, and Warped Bone
These four are bones from specific areas:
- Ancient Bones Location: Bone Piles in the Ancient Forest
- Boulder Bone Location – Piles of Bones in Wildspire Wastes
- Coral Bone Location: Bone Piles in Coral Highlands
- Warped Bone Location: Bone Piles in the Rotten Wastes
How to Get Quality Bone, Sturdy Bone, Monster Sharp Bone and Other Quality Bones
As you get closer to high rank, you will need increasingly rarer and higher quality bones:
- Sturdy Bone Location: Bone Piles in Coral Highlands and Rotten Vale (Low and High Rank)
- Quality Bone Location: Piles of bones in all areas (high rank)
- Brutal Bones Location: Piles of Bones in the Elder’s Recess (High Rank)
- Monster Keenbone Location: Completing high-ranking monster hunt quests (such as Pukei-Pukei and Anjanath)
- Monster Hardbone Location: Completing high-rank monster hunt quests (such as Odogaron and Pink Rathian)
- Wyvern Bonemass Location: From Radobaan Hunts (possibly both low rank and high rank)
- Dragonbone Relic Location: Bone Piles in Rotten Vale (High Rank and Master Rank)
- Unknown Skull Location: Rare Find in Bone Piles in Elder’s Recess (High Rank)
- Elder Dragon Bone Location: Completing Elder Dragon Hunts Quests (as Nergigante)
How to Get Monster Slogbone, Monster Solidbone, Monster Toughbone and Other Master Rank Bone Locations
The following bone locations are part of the Iceborne and Master Rank expansion areas:
- Thick Bone Location: Piles of bones in all areas (Master Rank)
- Monster Slogbone Location: Reward for completing the Master Rank hunts quest (like Tigrex and Barioth, according to reddit)
- Monster Solidbone Location: Reward for completing Master Rank hunt quests (like Tigrex and Barioth, according to reddit)
- Monster Toughbone Location: Reward for completing Master Rank Hunt quests (such as Beotodus, Great Jagras)
