Madison is a first-person horror game from indie developer Bloodious Games that focuses on scares, mystery, and puzzles, with the generating puzzle being one of the first that makes you think about the game.

Location of Madison’s Grandfather’s Basement

After exploring the TV room with the safe containing Luca’s diary, a door will open to your grandfather’s kitchen and dining room. You won’t be able to explore this area for long, as the power will go out, leaving the house in darkness, except for a mysterious red glow in some areas.

To turn the power back on, you’ll need to find the generator in Grandpa’s basement. To locate the generator, go through the door with the red glow. You should see another door with a photo of Luca’s grandparents on your right, indicating that you are on the right path.

Walk towards the red glow to find the basement.

Continue walking to the end of this hallway until you see some stairs leading down. This is where Grandpa’s basement and the generator are located.

Madison Generator Puzzle Solution Explained

Now that you have found the generator in the basement, you will need to solve the switch puzzle located on the left.

This involves moving each of the six switches to the “off” or “on” position by pressing up or down. You must change all six switches to their correct position from left to right, or they will all reset to their default position and you will have to try again.

Unfortunately, we cannot provide you with the exact solution to the generator in the basement puzzle, as the correct position of each switch is random for each individual’s game.

While trying to solve the puzzle, if you have flipped the first switch (B14) to the correct position, you will move to the second (B15) and must decide to press up or down.

This was our generator puzzle solution, but yours will be different.

If you guessed correctly, you will be able to go to the third switch (B16), but if you guessed wrong, you will be returned to the first one. However, you now know that the correct switch position for B15 is the opposite of what you changed earlier. Repeat this process for all six switches to solve the generator puzzle in the basement.

Once you have entered the correct puzzle solution, you will automatically exit the puzzle and can now turn on the generator to your right to turn the lights back on in Grandpa’s house.

You will have to interact with the generator after solving the puzzle to turn the lights back on.

Best of luck exploring the rest of Madison’s spooky corridors…
