Synergy Skills and Synergy Skills in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth are two crucial components that you must master if you want to survive the fierce battles that await you in each area. One doesn’t use ATB charges and the other can grant your party unique benefits when used.
Fighting alongside your party members in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will make each and every battle much easier. If you take the time to upgrade, learn, and use skills and synergy abilities, you won’t regret it, especially when encountering difficult enemies.

How to use synergy skills in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Synergy skills are combat moves that you can use to deal damage to an enemy with another party member. These skills don’t use any ATB charges, so they’re perfect if you want to take down a tough opponent without sacrificing too much.
Since they don’t use ATB charges, we recommend using Synergy Skills as much as you can during a fight, especially if an opponent is proving to be difficult.

To see what synergy abilities you can use with the character you’re currently controlling and other members of your party, press the touchpad while guarding with R1. This will put combat in slow motion and a small box will appear in the bottom left corner of the screen listing the skills you can use and the control commands for them.
Then, while guarding with R1, use the button or button combination linked to a skill to use it. Some abilities can be activated by pressing a single button or tapping a sequence of buttons. However, some abilities will require you to hold a button to charge and then release it to launch the attack.
For example, if we wanted Aerith to use Combat Savior on Cloud, we would press Square.

How to use synergy skills in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Synergy skills deal large amounts of damage and often apply partner-only buffs, such as giving the team unlimited MP. They are different from Synergy Skills, although it is easy to confuse them in the heat of battle.
Synergy skills can be used after you and another party member have built up enough synergy by using skills that charge ATB. Using any ATB command that is marked with the small circled double rectangle icon in the image below will give your characters Synergy.

You can check your Synergy level in two ways. One way is to open the command menu and select the ‘Synergy Skill’ option, then look at the bars above each character’s image next to the skill name.
The other way to check your Synergy level is to simply open the command menu with X and look at your character’s bar at the top of the command menu.

Once two characters have Synergy, you will have the opportunity to activate their Synergy ability. To do this, open your command menu with ‘X’ and then select the ‘Synergy Skill’ tab. Here, select which skill you want to use and it will activate instantly.
However, if you repeatedly use a synergy ability, the amount of synergy you will need to activate it will increase.

Additionally, the first time a character uses a synergy ability with Cloud, their friendship with him will increase, so it’s worth thinking about whether you want to befriend a specific person.
How to get new skills and synergy abilities in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
You can gain new abilities and synergy abilities by customizing characters’ publications using Maghnata Automat devices (vending machines) or by visiting a Maghnata Books store like the one in Kalm.
Select the folio of the character you want to customize and then follow the branches of their skill tree to find the next skill or ability you can unlock, but each one will cost you SP. You will also need to unlock any connection abilities to gain access throughout the branch to any Synergy-based ones.

Hover over a skill and the box header that appears will tell you whether it is a skill or singing skill. Synergy skills will be written in blue and skills will be marked in yellow writing. The box will tell you what the skill does, how much SP you need to spend to get it, and which partners are compatible with it.
