How to get the Nibelheim Chocobo in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

To fully explore Nibelheim in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, you must first obtain the Nibelheim Chocobo.

Getting Selena works a little differently than fighting the other Chocobos in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, as you have to guide her towards you by throwing bait at her, rather than using minecarts to advance Cloud. To help you get back to exploring, we’ve detailed below how to catch the Nibelheim Chocobo and also its exact location on the map.

How to get Nibelheim Chocobo in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

You must find the Chocobo Intel: Feathered Waverunners location and then complete a new mini-game to obtain the Nibelheim Chocobo in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. The Nibelheim Chocobo Intel is located just southeast of the landing strip, in front of the Remnawave Tower.

It’s important to get the Nibelheim Chocobo as soon as possible, as you can’t access certain areas in Nibelheim without using its Chocojet ability to shoot water underneath and propel you into the air.

How to catch Nibelheim Chocobo in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

You have to complete a new type of Chocobo fighting minigame before you can catch Selena, the Nibelheim Chocobo. Instead of using mine carts to sneak your way to Selena, you must drop chocobo bait and guide it through the spiky green plants. These plants disappear for a moment, leaving Selena to walk through them to the next area.

However, if Selena fills the red circular bar above her head by hitting too many plants, she will run away and you will have to try the minigame again. Luckily, there are checkpoints at certain points that reset the Chocobo’s red bar and start the minigame higher up, so you don’t have to go back to the beginning.

To start, head up the hill towards Selena’s location and pick up some Chocobo Bait Chunks near the edge of the cliff. He then throws a Chocbo bait close enough to Selena for her to follow Chocobo’s tracks on the ground.

At this first line of spiky plants, get Selena close enough without touching any, then cast the Chocobo Bait just before a section disappears to guide Selena to the other side. At this point, you will unlock your first checkpoint.

Do the same with the next line of plants: place Selena close to them, guiding her with the bait, then throw another bait to the other side just before a section of plants disappears to guide her to the other side.

Now, guide her back to Chocobo’s tracks with the bait to unlock another checkpoint. The next part involves a quick cast, so watch the pattern of the plants rising and falling if you need help timing it.

When the first small section of plants falls, throw a bait to place Selena on top of them, then almost immediately aim to the left and throw another bait, just before the next section of plants is about to fall.

Wait a few seconds and then cast another bait in the safe area next to the tracks, just before the plants are about to disappear.

Guide Selena a little higher with the bait, then throw a bait at the next patch of plants in the middle, when they disappear.

Wait a bit, then cast bait into the safe ground when the last section of plants disappears.

Now all you have to do is guide Selena towards the patch of grass at the bottom of the hill, then sneak up on her to finally catch the Nibelheim Chocobo!
