Zelda: Skyward Sword – The Imprisoned boss battle strategies explained

The Imprisoned is one of the two recurring bosses, along with Ghirahim, that you will have to defeat in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

Your battles against The Imprisoned will always occur in the Sealed Grounds, the first place Link visits on the surface world, as he tries to reach the evil path to the temple. He will break the seal on him after you have completed the Lanayru mining facility, the Fire Shrine, and defeated Bilopathy.

Below you can find our The Imprisoned boss battle strategies for every time you have to face this giant enemy.

First Boss Battle Strategies for The Imprisoned in Zelda: Skyward Sword Explained

The first battle against The Imprisoned in Skyward Sword will occur after you have completed the third dungeon: Lanayru Mining Facility.

You can track The Imprisoned’s progress towards the temple using the small diagram that appears on screen during the battle.

To stop his progress, you must destroy The Imprisoned’s toes. It has four on each foot: three in front and one behind.

Crush these toes!

After all eight toes have been destroyed, The Imprisoned will fall backwards to the ground. When this happens, he runs up to the Prisoner’s head and hits the seal inside it using upward sword movements.

The Imprisoned One will then slide towards the temple, before straightening up and growing his toes back. You can use air gusts to quickly climb to the correct section of the path.

Why don’t you slide down to the temple?

The Imprisoned, however, is not a passive monster and will send waves of dangerous energy across the ground to attack you. He will begin to charge these attacks, flushing his body, lifting his foot before slamming it into the ground.

These attacks will become more frequent as the battle progresses, so be sure to keep an eye on Link’s stamina or carry a stamina potion.

You will have to return the seal to The Imprisoned’s head three times to win this battle and, using a Skyward Strike, seal it back into the ground.

Repair the seal to temporarily defeat The Imprisoned.

Then, it will be time to visit the Island of Songs and, then, you must find the sacred water, in order to access the Ancient Cistern.

Second Boss Battle Strategies for The Imprisoned in Zelda: Skyward Sword Explained

Your second battle with The Imprisoned in Skyward Sword occurs after completing Fire Sanctuary, which is the sixth dungeon.

Before the battle, we recommend purchasing a Stamina Potion at the Skyloft Bazaar, since you will be running a lot. When you are ready, return to the bottom of the well in the Sealed Grounds to begin your battle against The Imprisoned.

Your second battle with The Imprisoned is pretty similar to the first: smash his toes to make him fall so you can hit the seal inside his head. You must repeat this process three times to reseal The Imprisoned.

This time, however, The Imprisoned will walk faster and send out evil energy with each step, making it harder to reach your toes. We recommend destroying the back toes first, before moving to the front, as this should save you time and health.

The obvious change in The Imprisoned is that it was decided to invest in some weapons.

The Imprisoned One will use these arms to climb up the side of the well, a feat you don’t want him to accomplish, as it will put the monster much closer to the Sealed Temple. Fortunately, you can use Groosenator to avoid this.

When The Imprisoned begins to ascend, switch to the Groosenator and aim for one of its hands.

You must destroy at least one of The Imprisoned’s fingers, which will stun him and prevent him from climbing. Then switch to Link and quickly destroy as many of the toes as you can before The Imprisoned starts moving again.

Depending on how your battle against The Imprisoned goes, you may have to bomb the monster’s hands as it walks. Fortunately, this will still stun him.

Aim for the Prisoner’s arm.

It’s important to note that you don’t have to destroy all of The Imprisoned’s fingers to defeat him, and if Link takes damage while using the Groosenator, you’ll be returned to his perspective.

When you successfully take down The Imprisoned, you will discover that its body is much larger than before. This means you must use the gusts of wind to travel either over or under it around its body in order to reach the seal. Remember to watch your stamina!

Use wind gusts to move around The Imprisoned.

Once The Imprisoned has been resealed, you will need to return to the Sealed Temple and, after exploring the past, it is time to return to Skyloft, so you can fight Bilopathy.

Our Skyward Sword walkthrough will help you find every heart piece and empty bottle. We can also help you defeat Ghirahim, Scaldera, Moldarach, The Imprisoned, Koloktos, Tentalus, Bilopathy and Demise. Third Boss Battle Strategies for The Imprisoned in Zelda: Skyward Sword Explained

The third battle against The Imprisoned in Skyward Sword takes place after you have defeated Bilopathy.

Before taking on The Imprisoned, it’s a good idea to pick up a Stamina Potion from the Potion Vendor in Skyloft, as you might need it.

Upon reaching the Sealed Grounds, Groose will inform you that the seal is breaking again, so head to the bottom of the well to begin the battle.

In this latest installment of Link versus The Imprisoned, the monster has increased its walking speed and energy waves. He has also grown a tail, which will make it much harder to reach his toes.

Watch out for the queue!

For this reason, you’ll want to use the Groosenator as soon as it becomes available. Once he’s stunned, destroy those fingers and place the seal in their place.

The Imprisoned will now start flying down the shaft, so return to the Groosenator and circle around until you can hit The Imprisoned. A successful hit will cause The Imprisoned to fall, so as Link, he hits the seal inside his head.

Next, The Imprisoned will attempt to fly once more, but this time, Groose has lost access to his bomb cache. Instead, you must use the wind gusts to reach the top of the pit and run towards the Groosenator.

Run to the Groosenator!

Once there, talk to Groose and then get on the catapult. You must then line up a shot with The Imprisoned’s head, so you can land safely and place the seal in place one last time.

With this, your sealing battles with The Imprisoned come to an end. Now you can focus on completing the Hero’s Song by visiting the three dragons, which we described in our Skyward Sword walkthrough.

Good luck defeating The Imprisoned!
