With this weapon skin, you’ll show other players how much you’ve used a specific weapon during your time in Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer.

This is because each camouflage requires you to do a little work; It’s always about killing enemies, but in different ways. You will need to play many matches before acquiring this particular camo.

If you’re new to the game, it may take you a while to figure out what you need to do to unlock the gold camo in Modern Warfare 2, so we’ve put together an explanation and some tips on how to get this eye-catching skin.

How do camouflages work in Modern Warfare 2?

A camo is basically a weapon skin that allows you to customize the appearance of your weapon, along with other cosmetic items like charms and stickers.

This is just a visual change – it won’t give you any boosts or advantages while playing.

Each weapon in Modern Warfare 2 has four base camouflages and four completionist camouflages.

The Base Camos are four unique skins that can only be unlocked with one weapon and then used with any weapon you want, while the completionists are always the same styles but exclusive to the weapon you use.

For example, the M4’s first base camo is Scales. If you unlock it, you can use it on your M4 or another assault rifle, shotgun, etc. However, if you unlock an M4 Completionist Camo, you will only be able to use it with this weapon.

Meanwhile, Gold Camo is the first completionist camo you can unlock with any weapon. As the name suggests, it will add a golden look to your weapon, making it shine on the battlefield.

However, before you can use it, you will have to complete certain challenges.

How to unlock the gold camouflage in Modern Warfare 2

To use any camouflage in Modern Warfare 2, you must first unlock it. Base camos are unlocked by killing enemies using the required weapon in unique ways.

For example, the Scales camo asks you to kill 50 enemies with the M4, and the Desert Hybrid requires you to kill another 50 while using its scope.

These specific challenges must first be unlocked by leveling up the weapon you are going to use. Each weapon has its specific level at which camouflage challenges are unlocked.

You can check this and the camouflage itself by going to the Weapons tab, selecting any multiplayer loadout, customizing it with the weapon you want, and then going to that weapon’s Blacksmith menu.

Here you will first see all the attachments that you can add to it. You must go from the Build Weapon tab to the Customize tab.

Choose the first option (Camo) and you will be able to check the weapon-specific camouflages on the left and all the ones you have already unlocked on the right.

To unlock the Gold Camo, you must first unlock the four base camouflages that the weapon you selected has. Once this is done, you will unlock the specific Gold Camo challenge.

For example, the M4’s Gold Camo asks you to get three kills without dying ten times; Killing the same player over and over again counts as long as you don’t die.

Tips for completing Gold Camo challenges in Modern Warfare 2

You can level up any weapon you want and complete its challenges in basically all available online modes (this also includes co-op missions). Killing both real players and bots counts as long as you get the kills the way the challenge calls for.

While you can play whatever you want, leveling up your weapon close to its maximum level and completing each challenge can take some time depending on your skill and luck.

A partial solution to this problem is to use dual weapon XP tokens, which will double all the experience points you earn in a given period of time. You can learn more about these tokens and how to get them in our Double XP guide.

Another useful tip is to play online modes that have no objectives other than defeating enemies. For example, free-for-all, team deathmatch, and confirmed kill. Here you will simply focus on killing soldiers, which will increase your weapon level and allow you to complete challenges.

However, the easiest multiplayer mode to unlock any Gold Camo is Invasion. In this mode, you fight against an army of real-life players and enemy robots. Robots are usually easier to defeat and are not as dangerous to you. Play a couple of matches here and you will unlock the desired gold camouflage as quickly as possible.

Other Completionist Camouflages, Including Platinum, Polyatomic, and Orion, Explained

As already mentioned, the Gold Camo is the first Completionist Camo that you can unlock with any weapon. This means there are three other special camouflages you can also get: Platinum, Polyatomic, and Orion.

To unlock any of these additional camouflages, you must complete a certain number of challenges with the previous camo. For example, to unlock the M4 Platinum Camo, you must complete its challenges while wearing the Gold Camo.

Repeat this with each Completionist camo and you will unlock all available camos for the weapon you are using in Modern Warfare 2.
