Disabling a tank by damaging the engine is one of the seasonal challenges in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2.
You can overcome this challenge quickly by finding tank locations before an enemy player or IO Guard enters one.
Completing this challenge will reward you with 20k XP, which will help you unlock skins from the new battle pass.

Fortnite tank locations
Tanks are located all over the map. Specifically, you can find tanks in Fortnite at:
- Command Cavern: On the eastern road, next to a campfire, and at the end of the western river, near the entrance to Command Cavern.
- The Fortress: inside the IO ship
- The Daily Bugle: at the east entrance
- Coney Crossroads: northeast, next to a pink building
- Leaning Towers: Under the north side of the IO airship, next to a crater
- Rocky Reels: in the center, under the flag.

It is better to land next to one of these tanks rather than arriving at a tank’s location later, as an enemy player or IO Guard can drive one away or destroy it as the match progresses.

How to disable a tank by damaging the engine in Fortnite
Once you have found a tank, you will need to disable its engine in order to complete this seasonal challenge.
A tank engine is located at the rear of the vehicle and looks like two yellow ventilation fans. You can use any weapon to disable the tank’s engine, including a lightsaber. Don’t worry about taking damage to the vehicle while doing this, as disabling the engine won’t cause any explosions, it just means that anyone inside will no longer be able to drive or shoot at the vehicle.
After taking a few hundred points of damage, the engine will glow orange and red, then a message will appear informing you that the tank’s engine is disabled. This will complete the Week 7 challenge and reward 20k XP instantly. After this, you can gain more XP by destroying structures with Cow Catcher and recovering stolen Seven supplies at IO locations.
