Choosing your starter Pokémon Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is one of the first things you’ll do in the game.
As always, there are three to choose from: Sprigatito – the grass type, Fuecoco – the fire type and, finally, Quaxly – the water type, each with a second and third evolution.

How to choose the best starter in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet for you
Choosing your starter Pokémon is one of the most important decisions you’ll make in any Pokémon game, and Scarlet and Violet are no different.
However, the open-world nature of the games may affect your choice, as you can access the gyms in any order. This means that you may no longer feel inclined to choose the starter that will facilitate the first set of Gyms and will instead focus on building a team that complements the weaknesses of your chosen Pokémon.
Although choosing a starter Pokémon is quite subjective, there are a number of facts to consider.
First of all, Fuecoco is perfect for the two Gyms closest to the starting point. These are Bug and Grass-type gyms, so as a Fire-type Pokémon, Fuecoco will pass through them.
Fuecoco’s third evolution, Skeledirge, is a Fire and Ghost-type Pokémon, meaning it can easily take the Ghost and Psychic Gyms as well. Skeledirge also has high HP and a special attack stat, but a low speed stat. Although he has the Unconscious ability, which will ignore any stat changes applied to him.
Meanwhile, Quaxly has an advantage over Team Star Fire Crew, another activity you can face early in the game. Quaquaval, its third evolution, is a Water and Fighting type Pokémon. This is an interesting type combination and one that gives Quaquaval an advantage over the Normal-type Gym.
Quaquaval also has the highest attack stat of all the starter Pokémon’s final evolutions. This stat can be increased further thanks to the Moxie ability, which will increase this Pokémon’s attack stat every time an opponent faints.
Finally, Sprigatito is a great choice for final challenges like the Elite Four. It can still have a big impact in the early game, especially when facing the Water-type Gym, but you’ll need to build your team.
Meowscarada, its final evolution, is a Grass and Dark-type Pokémon, making it a good contender in Psychic and Ghost-type Gyms. It also has a high attack stat and the highest speed stat of all starter Pokémon, but suffers from a low HP stat. Meowscarada has the Protean ability, which changes its type to match the attack used previously.
It is important to note that Nemona, your rival in the Victory Road story, will always choose the starting Pokémon that is weak to the chosen creature. So, in this sense, you will always have an advantage over her.
Remember: While there are pros and cons to each starter Pokémon, it’s ultimately your decision, so if there’s one you really love, pick it!

Of course, it’s arguably more useful to know other factors, such as their types, stats, and move sets, but we won’t deny that their appearance is also very important.
