God of War Valkyries is an optional challenge that you can take on at the end of the game.

The Valkyries are eight bosses (and one final boss) that are among the most challenging fights in the game and, as such, are best left until the end of the game.

God of War Valkyries and hidden chambers explained

The Valkyries are optional bosses and are among the toughest fights in the entire game, and while they share similar traits, they all pack enough punch that you’ll want to be prepared for them.

As such, we highly recommend returning late in the game, when you have better armor (level 6 recommended), a wide variety of skills, and a Resurrection Stone.

Finding Valkyries requires you to start opening Hidden Chambers. You’ll find the first one very early in the game, in the Wildwoods section, around the Daudi Kaupmaor boss fight, and you’ll be explicitly told that you can’t open them yet. The game is correct, so put it out of your mind for now.

The possibility of opening them will be part of the story and you will not miss it. Continue playing and it will be obvious when the skill unlocks. From there, you can go back and start opening Hidden Cameras.

It is at this point that you can start fighting the Valkyries, as several of them are behind these doors. Once you take on them first, you’ll unlock the Prove Your Courage side quest, which will tell you to go after the rest.

Note that not all Hidden Chambers have Valkyries, and not all Valkyries are behind Hidden Chambers, which is where our God of War Valkyries locations below will come in handy. After that, there is another additional one to address, which we also explain at the bottom of this page.

Defeating all the Valkyries not only unlocks a Trophy, but each one will drop some of the best loot in the game, including a unique set of Valkyrie armor.

God of War Valkyrie Locations

Behind six Hidden Chambers lie six Valkyries: four in Midgard, one in Muspelheim, and one in Niflheim. The other two have more specific requirements, which are described below.

Valkyrie Gunnr Location: Inside a hidden chamber within Thamur’s corpse, Midgard.

Valkyrie Kara Location: Inside a hidden chamber between The River Pass and Foothills, Midgard.

Valkyrie Geirdriful Location: Inside a hidden chamber in the Foothills, Midgard.

Valkyrie Eir Location: Inside a hidden chamber near The Mountain, Midgard.

Broken Valkyrie Location: Inside a hidden chamber within Helheim.

Valkyrie Olrun Location: Inside a hidden chamber within Alfheim.

Valkyrie Gondul Location: This is the last step once you have completed the series of trials within the optional kingdom of Muspelheim. Please note that accessing Muspelheim requires first finding all of the Muspelheim Ciphers within Midgard.

Valkyrie Hildr Location: You will find Hildr inside the optional realm of Niflheim, an endgame dungeon. It’s a bit of a maze, but the YouTube video below gives you an idea of where Hildr will be. Please note that accessing Niflheim requires first finding all of the Niflheim Ciphers within Midgard.

Finding the Queen of the Valkyries after completing all Valkyrie locations

Once all eight Valkyrie locations have been found and her challenges overcome, there’s one more in store.

Travel to the Council of Valkyries, where you will take the heads of the defeated Valkyries and have the opportunity to face a final boss battle: the Queen of the Valkyries, Sigrun.

Although it is more difficult, it is no different from previous encounters with Valkyrie, so if you have made it this far you can probably defeat it. Once this is done, you will unlock the Selector of the Slain trophy.
