Genshin Impact Pity, Soft Pity, 50/50 and Epitomized Path system explained

Pity, Soft Pity, 50/50, and Epitomized Path are systems in place to ensure you get a 5 or 4 star Featured item after reaching certain Wish milestones on Banners in Genshin Impact.

Some of these systems are explained in-game through poster descriptions, but the Genshin Impact community discovered Soft Pity and the usual descriptions can be confusing and even a little misleading.

To guide you through Genshin Impact’s gacha system, we’ve explained exactly how Hard Pity, Soft Pity, and the 50/50 systems work for character event posters and standard character and weapon posters, including how Epitomized Path works.

Genshin Impact banners and wishes explained

There are four types of Banners in Genshin Impact:

  • Beginners Wish (Known Fate)
  • Invocation of wanderlust (known destination)
  • Epitome Summon (Fate Intertwined)
  • Spinning Event Characters (Fate Intertwined)

Beginner Wishes Banner

You can spend your Knowledge Fate on the permanent Beginner’s Wish Banner. However, if you have wished 20 times, the Beginner Wish will no longer be available. After spending 10 Acquaint Fate on the Beginner’s Wish, you will get a guaranteed 4-star Geo character, Noelle. After using 20 Acquaint Fate, you will get another guaranteed 5 or 4 star character from a selected pool.

Wanderlust Summoning Banner

All 5-star characters and weapons not included in the event character banners are available in Wanderlust Invocation, a permanent banner. New 4-star characters are added in the update after their original debut in the Banner, but not the event-exclusive 4-star weapons.

For every 10 wishes you make with Acquaint Fate in Wanderlust Invocation, you are guaranteed at least one 4-star character or weapon.

Epitome Summon Banner

Epitome Invocation is a permanent weapon banner with upgraded 5- and 4-star weapons that typically change every three weeks, while adding new event character banners. Like these character banners, you must use Intertwined Fate to Wish on Epitome Invocation.

Character Event Banners

For temporary event character banners, you must use Intertwined Fate to Wish on them and they usually change every three weeks. Sometimes there will only be one Event Character Banner and other times there will be two. When there are two, they share the same pity system, 50/50 system, and 4-star boosted characters.

It’s worth noting that the featured 5-star character isn’t the only 5-star character you can get from each event banner; the odds have simply increased. You can even get 5-star weapons if they are included in that Banner’s wish pool. However, the featured 5-star character and the three 4-star characters will benefit from the 50/50 and Pity systems.

Be sure to check out our next and current banner page for a complete list of the 5 and 4 star character and weapon groups for each banner.

Genshin Impact 50/50 system explained

The in-game description for this guaranteed giveaway says there is a 50% chance of getting the 5-star featured on a character event banner. Although this is technically Admittedly, with the 50/50 system, it doesn’t mean there is a 50% chance of wishing for the featured 5-star every time you spend your Intertwined Fate on a wish.

Let’s say Arataki Itto is the 5-star character featured on your Oni’s Royale banner. With the 50/50 system in place, if you don’t get it the first time you successfully get a 5-star character or weapon, you’re guaranteed to get it the second time you get a 5-star item.

There is a 50% chance that you will get the 5-star featured character every time you take out a 5-star item.

The ‘50% chance of getting Itto’ in this context means that there is a 50% chance of getting it every time you manage to get a 5-star item, not every time you make a wish on its banner. In reality, there is only a 0.6% chance of getting Itto with each Wish.

It’s also worth noting that every current and future event character, Banner, shares this 50/50 system. For example, if you wished for Yelan on the other banner that appears next to Itto’s, for your 90th wish you will be guaranteed to obtain Yelan, even if your previous 89 wishes were on Itto’s banner, but only if your last weapon o 5-star character Obtained from an event character, Banner. This would carry over to character event banners that replace Itto and Yelan, and subsequent ones, and so on.

50/50 system with 4 star character.

4-star characters share their own 50/50 system. An upgraded 4-star featured character on an event banner is guaranteed after 20 wishes, as opposed to the 5-star guarantee of 190.

So, for example, if you didn’t get Chongyun, Bennett, or Kuki Shinobu the first time you got a 4-star weapon or character from an event banner, one of them will be guaranteed the next time you successfully wish for a 4-star. article. This also carries over to all current and future character event posters.

Epitome System Summon 50/50

The Epitome Invocation Weapon Banner has its own 50/50 system, but it is completely separate from the 50/50 odds of the Character Event Banner. Although it is known as 50/50, there are actually 75/25 chances of obtaining a 5-star Featured Weapon on each 5-star item successfully obtained in Epitome Invocation, so there is a 75% chance, not a fifty%.

However, the same 50/50 rules apply, meaning that if you don’t get a 5-star Featured Weapon on your first 5-star draw, you’re guaranteed to get it the second time around.

Genshin Impact Pity and Soft Pity system explained

With the Soft Pity system in Genshin Impact, you are more likely to get a 5-star character after your 75th wish on a character event banner. Your chances of getting a 5-star item will increase with each wish after 75, until you are guaranteed a 5-star item on your 90th wish with the regular Hard Pity system, if you don’t already have one. So, combined with the 50/50 system, in the worst case you would get the 5-star featured character on your 180th wish.

Event Banner 4-Star characters have their own Pity system. Therefore, you are guaranteed a 4-star character or weapon after ten Wishes. You have a 50% chance of getting one of three featured 4-stars on a banner with the 50/50 system, and you are guaranteed a featured 4-star character after 20 wishes.

You’re more likely to get 3-star weapons from Wishes than from characters, but it’s possible to get multiple characters in just 10 Wishes.

As with the 50/50 system, Soft Pity and Pity for 5 and 4 star characters carry over between all current and future character event posters.

The Wanderlust Summon Banner follows the same odds as Soft Pity and Pity, but is completely separate from the character event banners. There are also many 5 and 4 star weapons included in Wanderlust Invocation, so it may take much longer to obtain a character from this standard Banner.

Version 4.1 is coming! To upgrade Lyney, you will need a lot of Rainbow Rose and Lynette requires Lumidouce Bell. You’ll also need luck from the Pity and 50/50 systems to wish them fate and future banners, and you’ll always need the correct adventure rank for events. Elsewhere, we have beginner tips and tricks, Dendroculus locations, fishing locations, and TCG card locations.

Genshin Impact Summoning the Epitome Pity, Gentle Pity and Path Personified

Although we can’t confirm it ourselves yet, Soft Pity by the Epitome Invocation weapon banner appears to start around 60 wishes. The reason this is lower than Soft Pity on a Character Event Banner is because the Banner weapon’s ordinary Hard Pity has 80 Wishes instead of 90. Therefore, you are guaranteed a 5-star weapon after 80 Wishes.

Another way to reduce the Primogems you’ll spend on Desiring the featured 5-star weapon you want in Epitome Invocation is by using Epitomized Path.

Once you choose one of the two featured 5-star weapons to “chart a course,” you’ll begin earning Fate Points for every 5-star weapon you draw that isn’t the one you want. Once you have accumulated 2 Fate Points, your next 5-star weapon is guaranteed to be the one you chose for your personified path. With a 75% chance that you’ll get one of the two 5-star weapons featured in Personified Summoning, this is just another way to make sure you don’t spend your hard-earned Primogems on the same weapon every time you roll a 5- . Star.

However, you must choose the weapon you want to chart a course towards before you can start earning Fate points, and once you obtain the weapon you want, whether through Epitomized Path or not, you will lose all your Fate points. . These points also do not transfer between the two featured 5-star weapons, so if you change your mind about which 5-star you want after accumulating a Fate point, you will lose it when you plot a course for the other weapon.

Wishing you good luck on the Genshin Impact posters!
