Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth The Saga of Seaside Inn walkthrough

The Seaside Inn Saga is a long side quest that began in Chapter 7 of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, but you can’t actually finish it until you reach Chapter 9.

Johnny’s quest in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth involves finding ziplines, making a boiler valve, and stealing a King Tonberry Crown, which our The Saga of Seaside Inn walkthrough covers below, along with the quest rewards.

How to start The Seaside Inn Saga in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

You have to reach Chapter 7 to start The Seaside Inn Saga in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Chapter 7 begins right after the events on the Sunshine Coast beach, and you begin by putting on Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith’s swimsuits.

You’ll have to participate in mini-games like Card Carnival and find hidden Cactuars and Wheelie locations to earn Companion Cards which are used to purchase swimsuits.

In Chapter 7, you can begin your quest for Johnny by talking to him at his hotel or by first picking him up from the bulletin board on the Costa del Sol. He will go over his situation and then you will have to travel to Corel to begin your first task.

Where to recover restoration materials in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Your first task for The Saga of Seaside Inn side quest is to recover lost renovation materials for the Johnny Duo in Costa Falls. There are eight Renovation Material locations to find at the top of the ziplines in Corel, but you only have to find four of them to continue the quest. However, finding all eight gives you a three-star subquest completion rating and slightly alters some dialogue later on.

We have more information and images in our complete zipline locations guide, but at a glance, here’s an image of where to find all the renovation materials and ziplines in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth:

How to check the Republic Era factory in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Next, you must head to the Republic Era factory in the northern region of Corel to meet the Johnny duo again. They want to make a special boiler valve in the factory, but to do so, you must first find the two Lifesprings in this part of Corel to mark an Intel Dig in the factory.

Lifesprings are found in the southern and southeastern areas of this part of Corel. Here is a map image of Lifespring locations:

Follow the spring-seeking owls as you approach Lifesprings, then follow them to scan the crystals. Once the excavation information is marked on your map, return to the Republic Era factory and whistle for your Chocobo to start sniffing for the boiler valve transmuter chip.

How to make the boiler valve in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Now that you have the recipe, it’s time to make the boiler valve with:

  • x2 Iron ore
  • x2 Zinc Ore
  • x2 amethyst

All of these can be found in the Corel region by collecting mineral deposits (the resources with a bracelet-shaped symbol above them), and we have a whole page on how to get zinc ore, but in short, the best place. To obtain zinc ore, amethysts and even iron ore, it is in Mount Corel. While you may get lucky and find some in the first Corel beach area, the mountain is a much easier place to farm.

We recommend continuing the story on Mount Corel if you haven’t already, as you need to follow this path in order to complete the next part of Johnny’s quest anyway.

How to steal and deliver King Tonberry’s crown in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

As we mentioned earlier, you must continue the story to complete this final part of The Seaside Inn Saga, as you can only reach King Tonberry’s location in Chapter 9 after your first trip to the Golden Saucer.

We have a lot more details and a boss strategy in our Tonberry King Crown guide, but in summary, here’s how to steal and deliver the Tonberry King’s Crown for The Saga of Seaside Inn:

  1. Reach the next open Corel area in Chapter 9.
  2. Find and scan the four Lifesprings in this new Corel region.
  3. Go to the new ‘Intel Ranked: Heavy Lies the Crown’ map marker that appears after doing this.
  4. Equip one party member with Steal Materia (Yuffie has this by default).
  5. Summon King Tonberry and pressure him to drop his Pristine Crown.
  6. Use the steal ability on Pristine Crown to pick it up.
  7. Defeat King Tonberry to successfully claim the Crown.

If you kill King Tonberry without stealing the Pristine Crown, you will get the Spoiled Crown. It doesn’t make a big difference which crown you give Johnny, but that Pristine Crown looks pretty on Johnny’s desk, and he’s very happy to receive it.

Once you report back to Johnny at his hotel, the Seaside Inn saga will finally be over!

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth The Saga of Seaside Inn Rewards

In addition to party level and character XP, these are the The Saga of Seaside Inn rewards you get in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth:

  • #134 J Squad Queen’s Blood Card.
  • Johnny’s treasure.
  • His relationship with Yuffie improves.

Johnny’s Treasure Trove is a showcase of all the collectibles you accumulate during your travels, and once you find enough collectibles, you’ll be able to open that chest outside the hotel.
