How to prepare for Godrick the Grafted
Preparation for Godrick the Grafted varies, depending on how you want to fight the boss. If you opt for close combat, then we will recommend a weapon that has long range, such as the longsword or potentially the Uchigatana. You’ll also want to make sure said weapon is upgraded at least once, because fighting Godrick with a basic weapon is a recipe for a grueling fight.
Alternatively, if you’re using a magic/ranged build in Elden Ring (you’ll need to find a location for the staff first), you’ll want to make sure you have offensive spells that don’t take long to cast. Godrick moves around the arena at a fairly fast pace, so if you’re going to cast spells, you won’t want to stand still for too long.
In addition to the warrior you can summon at the entrance, make sure you have a summon spirit made up of more than one character. Godrick hits hard and is likely to take down a single companion in one or two hits, so for maximum distraction, consider using a summon like the Wandering Nobles, or wolves that split up and run at the boss individually, which will draw Godrick’s strength. attention for longer.
Godrick the Grafted Tips: How to Beat Godrick the Grafted
Godrick is tough, fast and hits hard. The boss comes towards you when the introductory cutscene ends, but don’t take that to mean he can’t run around the arena when necessary. In fact, one of Godrick’s fastest attacks is when he rolls to either side, before propelling himself into the air and slamming his massive ax into the ground. You don’t need to dodge Godrick while he’s rolling on the ground, but you’ll need to time your dodge perfectly with the attack landing on the ground if you haven’t already moved out of range of him.
In reality, this attack is usually preceded by an air attack. We’re not exactly sure how Godrick does it, but he spends a few seconds spinning air waves around him, resulting in three increasingly larger attacks around him. Make sure you back away far enough during this attack, because it’s usually followed by the rolling attack we mentioned earlier.
Another attack that is absolutely essential to watch out for is when Godrick wields his ax upside down with two hands, causing the head to fall to the ground. This is an area of effect shockwave attack, which actually emits one wave when it hits the ground and then another wave about two seconds later. Dodge the first wave, then jump over the second wave and slash Godrick with your weapon while in the air. This is a great tactic for dealing a strong blow to the boss while dodging one of his most forceful attacks.
You’ll also want to quickly move away from Godrick’s chain attack. The cue for this attack is when Godrick holds both axes behind him on the same side of his body, after which he will launch five or six slashing attacks. Dodging them or simply running away from them are perfectly viable options, since you won’t have time to attack Godrick between dodging each attack.
When Godrick has between half and a third of his health left, an absolutely metallic cutscene unfolds, with the Grafted wielding a dragon head and his flame-spitting attack. The flame-spitting attack is now in play, but dodging it simply requires you to run around Godrick on the opposite side to where the attack begins, thus giving you maximum time to evade the flames. Godrick continues this attack for a few seconds even if you dodge, so he takes the opportunity to land a few hits.
One thing that’s really important to note is that in this second phase, the shockwave attack we mentioned earlier now comes in three waves.
