Pokémon Go Giratina counters, weaknesses and moveset explained

Giratina has emerged from the Distorted World to appear in Pokémon Go.

When the Renegade Pokémon appears in Pokémon Go, it will take one of two forms, either the Wyvern Origin Form or the Winged Altered Form. Fortunately, Giratina’s weaknesses and counterattacks remain the same no matter what form it takes.

Like the legendary Pokémon it shares the Sinnoh region with, including Dialga and Palkia, Giratina will be available in five-star raids, so if you want to defeat this dragon, you’ll need a team of fellow trainers.

Cons and weaknesses of Giratina in Pokémon Go

If you want to add Giratina to your Pokédex, then you need equipment that attacks its weakness and the counters below will help you achieve this:

  • Giratina Type: Ghost and dragon type.
  • Giratina is weak against: dark types, dragons, fairies, ghosts and ice.
  • Giratina Counters: For dark types, Umbreon, Weavile and Darkrai. For dragon types, Dragonite, Rayquaza, Salamence, Garchomp, Dialga, Palkia, Haxorus, Hydreigon and Zekrom. For fairy types, Togekiss, Granbull, Gardevoir and Zacian. For ghost types, Gengar, Giratina (Origin Forme) and Chandelure. For ice types, Mamoswine, Abomasnow and Darmanitan (Galarian).
  • Other Giratina Notes: We recommend focusing on powerful dragon types when building your team of Giratina counters, because while Giratina’s dual typing means it has an advantage over them, this weakness works both ways. Be sure to include any dual dark and dragon types you may have!

Giratina move set in Pokémon Go

Both the fast and charged moves used by each Giratina Forme are different, although most of the moves are dragon or ghost type.

When it comes to the best moveset for Altered Forme Giratina, we recommend Shadow Claw (Fast) and Dragon Claw (Charged). These moves ensure that you’re taking advantage of both types of Giratina, and if you can unlock its second charged attack, we recommend picking up Shadow Sneak for additional ghostly power.

These are the moves that Altered Forme Giratina can use:

Possible quick moves:

  • Dragon Breath (Dragon)
  • Shadow Claw (Phantom)

Possible charged moves:

  • Ancient Power (Earth)
  • Dragon Claw (Dragon)
  • Shadow Force (Ghost – Halloween 2022 event exclusive)
  • Shadow Poacher (Phantom)

For Origin Forme Giratina’s moveset, we recommend Dragon Tail (Fast) and Shadow Ball (Charged). Like Giratina’s moveset in Altered Form, these attacks ensure you use both types of Giratina, and if you’ve collected enough candy, we suggest Dragon Pulse for this Pokémon’s second charged attack.

Below you will find the moves that Origin Forme Giratina can learn:

Possible quick moves:

  • Dragon Tail (Dragon)
  • Shadow Claw (Phantom)

Possible charged moves:

  • Dragon Pulse (Dragon)
  • Sinister wind (ghost)
  • Shadow ball (ghost)
  • Shadow Force (Ghost – Halloween 2022 event exclusive)

Everything we know about Giratina

Created by Areceus (i.e. Pokémon god), Giratina is part of the creation trio, along with Dialga and Palkia.

Origin Giratina Form.

Giratina, however, was much more violent than Areceus expected, so she was banished to the Distortion World. In a way, this means that Giratina can be considered the fallen angel of Pokémon mythology.

Giratina is the personification (or Pokémonification, if you will) of antimatter, with Distortion World acting as almost the opposite of the normal Pokémon verse. It is devoid of time and space itself is unstable, as the laws of physics are absent.

Giratina has two different forms.

The altered form Giratina has six legs and a pair of wings, while the source form has a snake-like appearance, with six floating appendages.

In the main series of games, you can only find Origin Forme Giratina when you visit Distortion World or when Giratina is holding the Griseous Orb. The two forms have different statistics; Altered Forme Giratina is defensive oriented, while Origin Forme prefers to be offensive.

Good luck catching Giratina in Pokémon Go!
