Elden Ring Crucible Knight tips and strategy

Crucible Knight is an optional boss in the Limgrave region of Elden Ring.

The Crucible Knight, located near the Gatehouse Site of Grace, can be accessed at the nearby Evergaol marker, where you will be transported to a new arena to face the boss.

While you can take on the Crucible Knight on your own, we recommend cooperating for the tough fight ahead, or even a Spirit Ash summon to help you on your way to killing the boss.

How to prepare for Crucible Knight

The Crucible Knight simply attacks with physical slashes, but still hits hard. To that end, we highly recommend that you equip yourself with the best physical defense armor possible, as there are no elemental attacks you need to worry about in this fight.

Preparing for this fight can be very different, depending on whether you are good at parrying or not. If you’re confident in your parrying abilities, equip a shield, because Crucible Knight is an incredibly vulnerable boss to being parried.

Don’t worry if you’re not an expert at parrying, though, because simply dodging this boss’s attacks is a viable option.

Crucible Knight Tips: How to Beat Crucible Knight

Primarily, Crucible Knight performs slashing and stabbing attacks with his greatsword. Learning the timing of the switches is absolutely paramount, because once you master them, this fight becomes much easier.

A general rule of thumb for the boss fight is to always roll towards the Knight’s attacks, rather than away from them, so you can follow up the roll with a quick attack of your own.

Another rule is that the more you destroy Crucible Knight’s health, the more chain attacks you will see. For example, the boss normally performs one or two slashes at a time near the beginning of the fight, but this number increases to four or five attacks in a row.

Generally, if the Knight’s attack ends with his sword on the ground in front of him, you can hit him, but if his sword ended one move behind him, be prepared to dodge again.

When the Crucible Knight runs forward with his shield, be ready to dodge the boss at the last possible second. This is a shield-based attack that will launch you into the air and leave you on the ground for a few seconds if he hits you, and this is an attack you’ll really want to avoid.

If the boss raises his leg, with or without his shield equipped, you’ll want to be mid-dodge when his foot hits the ground. This is an area-of-effect shockwave attack and is also the start of a four-hit combo, meaning it’s deadly if this first hit catches you.

At about half his health, the Crucible Knight sprouts wings and a tail. Dealing with the former is simple enough, as the Crucible Knight will periodically rise into the air, before yelling at you online.

Simply dodge the spin to either side of the boss when it’s just a few feet away from you to avoid this attack completely.

As for the queue, things are a little more complicated. The Crucible Knight will now chain a tail whip into most of his regular combos and attacks, meaning there is one more dodge you must perform at the end of most combos.

Remembering this is essential, because it can stun you and leave you open to another attack from the Knight.

If you see the Knight move his tail while he is a good distance away from you, be prepared to dodge the spin. While the smaller tail whip simply reaches standard range, there is actually a much larger tail whip that follows this attack, spanning roughly half of the entire arena.

Crucible Knight’s Reward

When the Crucible Knight finally falls for good, you will be rewarded with 2100 Runes. You’ll also get the cool Crucible Aspects: Tale Incantation, which actually grants you the ability to summon your own tail for a slam attack in front of you.

With the Knight dead, it’s time to return to the open world of Elden Ring and continue your journey to become an Elden Lord.
