Destiny 2 weapon crafting and how to attune Deepsight Resonance weapons

Destiny 2 weapon crafting and how to attune Deepsight Resonance weapons

Weapon crafting in Destiny 2 is one of the major new features of The Witch Queen expansion and gives you almost complete control over the outcome of your weapons, assuming you’re lucky with your throws.

Crafting weapons takes a bit of effort and patience, but once you level up a weapon enough, you can basically get your own god rolling.

The process requires you to find Deepsight weapons and complete their Attunement requirements, and while the prospect of obtaining materials may seem daunting, with time and effort, there will be a way to get what you need.

How to Unlock Weapon Crafting in Destiny 2

Weapon Crafting is automatically unlocked after completing the first two missions of The Witch Queen campaign. These are free for all players and will see you board Savathun’s ship, acquire a mysterious artifact, and confront the Witch Queen before crashing back to Mars.

Once you’re back at the Enclave on Mars, you’ll be directed to the large building behind where you spawn. Head there for a short cutscene introducing the Relic and its functions. This is where you’ll go crafting weapons for the majority of Witch Queen’s campaign and creating your first Glaive as a tutorial.

Once you have created the Glaive, you will have the potential to find weapons with Deepsight Resonance from then on.

How to craft weapons in Destiny 2

Crafting weapons requires materials and patterns, and it takes quite a while to obtain a weapon pattern. Once you have what you need, head to the Relic and choose Shape (create) or Reshape (modify an existing crafted weapon).

Shape allows you to build a weapon from scratch, choosing its build and perks. Reshape uses materials to add new benefits. It’s something you’ll use more often as you level up more weapons and unlock perks and other mods, since your available options are limited initially.

This is what everyone does:

  • Intrinsic Feature: Special advantages that govern the weapon’s operation.
  • Magazine: influences the rate of fire, reload speed and related aspects
  • Barrel: influences stability, range and related aspects.
  • Trait 1: An additional benefit of your choice
  • Trait 2: An additional benefit of your choice
  • Memento: a special cosmetic

At higher weapon levels, you can also unlock upgraded traits, which essentially allow you to add traits of your choice to the weapon during retooling.

How to level up weapons in Destiny 2

Leveling up a weapon only requires you to use it in combat, which you will naturally do while working to complete Attunement for a given weapon anyway.

More perk slots are unlocked as you level up your weapons. Weapon Levels are a new stat separate from your Power Levels and have no effect other than unlocking perks.

How to Get Deepsight Weapons and Weapon Patterns in Destiny 2

You’ll earn some weapon patterns by completing missions, but most come from weapon tuning. Since even finding a weapon with Deepsight Resonance is random (wherever you get a legendary drop, you’ll also have a chance to get a version of Deepsight), you should expect that unlocking weapon patterns will potentially take a long time.

Weapons with Deepsight Resonance have a red border around their icon in the character menu, making them difficult to miss. For now, only weapons from The Witch Queen expansion can be crafted, including the new Exotics. Bungie will add more patterns over time.

The Season of the Depths is here along with the Into the Depths quest. You can also know how to go fishing! Don’t forget to keep an eye on the Lost Sector and King’s Fall challenge rotation schedule!

How to tune weapons in Destiny 2

Once you have acquired a Deepsight weapon, you will find its attunement requirements in the weapon details section. Most weapon attunement missions simply involve using the weapon in combat until the attunement meter reaches 100%.

Once that happens, you’ll need to extract the resonance materials, which can be a little confusing at first. The message tells you to “claim” them, but you actually have to hover over the bottom row of icons to display the available materials.

You can claim any material you choose, but only one of the set that is available. Over time, as you unlock more weapon patterns, you’ll want to pay more attention to the materials you grab.

Crafting and reshaping weapons requires a certain amount of specific Resonant Materials depending on the weapon or upgrade you’re working with, so be sure to check what you need before mining them.

You obtain all Resonant Materials, except the two alloy types, by tuning weapons and mining their materials. Some crafting quests also reward you with Resonant Materials, although they run out quickly.
