Parasite in Destiny 2 is an exotic grenade launcher. I’m sorry, worm launcher – which arrived alongside The Witch Queen in Year 5.
The quest to unlock Parasite comes once you complete the campaign, and even then, there’s still a long set of steps to go.
The journey to Parasite Exotic takes you to some of the most dangerous locations in the expansion, so if you fight your way through the campaign’s final battle, be sure to raise your power level to at least 1520 or higher.
Your reward is an enormously powerful weapon with explosive worms as ammunition, so it’s worth the effort.

How to get the Parasite in Destiny 2 in brief
Here’s a quick summary of the steps needed to get Parasite:
- Complete the Witch Queen’s campaign and return to Ikora on Mars.
- Complete the “Birthplace of the Vile” attack.
- Talk to Fynch
- Locate a Crypto Rune in the Temple of Cunning
- Defeat 100 Scorn in the Throne World.
- Find the lost sector of the Sepulcher
- Complete the lost sector
- Complete three patrols in the fluorescent channel.
- Find a cryptoglyph rune in Queen’s Bailey
- Find the lost sector of metamorphosis
- Complete the lost sector
- Find a cryptoglyph rune on the seductive curtain
- Find the Deepsight cache in Alluring Curtain
- Find the lost sector of extraction
- Complete the lost sector
- Talk to Fynch
- Complete the Parasitic Pilgrimage quest.
Once this is done, the Parasite is finally yours! Now, to go over each step in more detail…
Search for parasites of queens and worms steps 2-12
Once the final Witch Queen mission is complete, return to Mars to speak with Ikora and unlock a new branch of tasks.
The one you want is to find Mara Sov, who is in the chamber behind the Relic in the weapon crafting room. Once your conversation ends, you’ll unlock a new Strike: Birthplace of the Fel.
Step 2: Complete the Fel’s Birthplace
Open the Throne World map and you will see the Fel Attack Birthplace sign in the northwest corner. It’s a long but simple challenge that will pit you against waves of enemies as you advance towards The Dark City.
It culminates in a battle against Heimiks, Guardian of the Harvester. This is also a simple fight on a simple field. Instead of the Heimiks generating shields when you deplete a portion of their health bar, you are sent to a dark dimension and must continue moving forward to reach the boss arena again.
Step 3: Talk to Fynch
Return to Mars and talk to Fynch to unlock the next step.
Step 4: Locate a Cryptoglyph Rune inside the Temple of Cunning
The next step is long, but it is almost entirely walk-based. Place a waypoint marker in the mission area before you begin to make finding the objective easier. The first stage of the mission takes you back underground, following the routes you took during The Ghost campaign mission northwest of Quagmire.
After passing through the first cavern with Hive Membranes, you will emerge into the chamber where you previously fought a wave of Scorn. Instead of turning left, go to the back of the chamber and go through the golden portal.
Now it’s just a matter of continuing to move forward until you reach the final chamber. There is no need to stop and fight along the way, so just keep going. You will face a horde of enemies and the Hive Guardian boss, and the Rune will appear after defeating the boss.

Step 5: Defeat 100 Scorn in the Throne World
Contempt appears almost everywhere in the Throne World, but you can find them in greater numbers in the Miasma region and in the Lost Extraction Sector.
Steps 6 and 7: Find and complete the Lost Sepulcher Sector
Step 6 takes you to the entrance to Sepulcher’s Lost Sector. The next task is to complete it, which is harder than it seems considering the recommended power level is 1520.
You’ll face two Hive Guardians and a large number of Hive along the way. At the end, interact with the Deepsight point to reveal a platform above the statue. Climb up there and you’ll find an incubator in the chamber behind.
Step 8: Complete three patrols on the fluorescent channel
You can complete the same one three times, so find a quick one and eliminate this step.
Step 9: Find a Cryptoglyph Rune in Queen’s Bailey
Follow the quest as you did with the first cryptoglyph rune. Head to the Queen’s Gardens and don’t stop unless necessary. Defeat the Hive horde at the end to get the new Rune.

Steps 10 and 11: Find and complete the Metamorphosis Lost Sector
This is essentially the same as steps six and seven. Metamorphosis in the Miasma region is a little harder to find, although we detail where to look in our Lost Sector guide. Clear the hive and defeat the two hive guardians, then interact with the Deepsight orb to reveal a path to the incubator.
Step 12: Find a Cryptoglyph Rune on the Alluring Curtain
Follow the quest as usual and follow the marker until you reach the end of a balcony outside Savathun’s palace.
This Rune quest takes a little longer. It requires more platforms and revealing paths to advance using Deepsight, so while your path forward is still just a straight path, you’ll often need to stop and take out enemies to make it easier.

Of Queens and Worms Step 13 ‘Find Deepsight’s Cache in the Alluring Curtain’
Activate the Deepsight node, then shoot the three torches that appear on the floating platforms above you.

Steps 14 and 15: Find and complete the extraction lost sector
You know what to do at this point. Eliminate the Hive and Hive Guardians in Extraction, find the incubator behind the statue and continue to the next step.
Step 16: Talk to Fynch
Find Fynch again and unlock a new activity: Parasitic Pilgrimage.

Of Queens and Worms Step 17 ‘Complete Parasitic Pilgrimage’
This last step is a long and complex mission that you may have to try several times.

Keep Savathun Worm Alive
The first phase involves carrying the Savathun Worm and collecting pools of Hive Energy along the way. The first eight groups are easy to collect, but as you approach the Court of Thorns, you are besieged by waves of Exploding Thrall and must navigate obstacles that kill you instantly if you come into contact with them.
Locate hive light sources
Follow the marker off the field and enter a hallway. Activate the Deepsight node, then shoot the object swinging above you to open the way forward. Jump through the portal at the end to activate the next step.
Steal light from the hive
No one-hit cheats this time. Instead, you’ll be taken to three sets of concentrated Hive Light and swarms of Thrall and strong enemies. The Hive Light is surrounded by an energy cage. Shoot the glass in the rooms with the Light to disable the cage and move on to the next one.
Start and complete the worm ritual
The next step is simpler. Follow the marker to the open area where you fought a Goliath tank during the Ghost mission and defend yourself against waves of Contempt as the worm ritual unfolds.
Take the worm to Mara Sov
Go up to the temple as you did before and talk to Mara Sov inside. Now, you can finally claim the Parasite Exotic grenade launcher. The last step is to use it to defend yourself from further scorn while she completes the ritual, and then you get some important historical information.
