Destiny 2 Faction Rally: How to get Renown and which Faction is best to choose from Dead Orbit, Future War Cult and New Monarchy

Destiny 2 Faction Rally returns for Season 3, giving players the option to support one of three factions to be rewarded with discounts on their unique products.

Which faction to choose is not an easy question to answer, but those who played the original game will recognize the three in question: Dead Orbit, Future War Cult and New Monarchy, so you may already have a preference.

Season 3 also introduces a new mechanic, Renown, and some of the best rewards yet, including a unique exotic armor ornament and a catalyst.

Destiny 2 Faction Rally explained and how to choose a faction

Between July 17 and 24, players can align themselves with one of three factions, who are recruiting Guardians to help them “gather supplies and destroy enemy resources.”

Doing so will earn you tokens that you can use to level up your faction like any other in Destiny 2.

At the end of the week, the faction that has redeemed the most faction packs will be considered the winner, who will then sell a specific weapon to each player in the game.

However, if you are part of that winning faction, it will be available at a significant discount:

  • Weapon cost for members of the winning faction: 1000 Glimmer
  • Weapon cost for players from other factions: 50,000 Glimmer

The weapons in question for this Faction Rally are the following:

Of course, you’ll earn other weapons and gear from your faction as you redeem faction packs. As part of Season 3, this now includes Exotic Ornaments and Exotic Catalysts, available as faction rewards:

  • Dead Orbit (Otherworldly Eye Ornament, Graviton Lance Catalyst)
  • New Monarchy (Shield of Alfa Lupi, Sweet Business Catalyst)
  • Future War Cult (Knucklehead Radar Ornament, Solar Shot Catalyst)

These, along with the other item sets, are obtained by redeeming your tokens. They are also available in certain ranges. The above ornaments and catalysts are available once you reach rank 50, for example. And don’t worry about reaching Rank 50 in a single week: you have the entire season to do it, with a total of three faction meetings available.

It’s worth noting that the equipment you receive from these factions will drop below your level, and not at the maximum power level cap, like the end-game activities Nightfall and Raid.

How to choose a faction

Please note that there are spoilers for Destiny 2’s endgame, so skip ahead if you haven’t completed the story yet.

Once you have completed the game’s story, travel to the new Tower social space and you will be asked to join a faction by visiting one of three faction vendors, found in the following locations:

  • Dead Orbit: Hangar, turn left to the north side.

  • Future War Cult: Hangar, turn left as soon as you enter and go up the stairs.

  • New Monarchy: Bazaar, in the far southwest

After visiting all three, you’ll need to choose one to join.

If you did the Faction Rally the first time, then you don’t need to do the course; simply visit the faction you wish to join. So while you can’t switch factions after choosing in a given week, you can switch allegiances between Faction Rally events.

Please note that if you have multiple characters, each one can be from a different faction. according to Bungie.

How to gain renown in Faction Rally and level up your chosen faction

New for Season 3 is a “renown” buff, which gives you more tokens for your performance. After pledging to a faction, this will take effect when you begin performing certain activities at public events:

  • Patrol Mission (1 Renown)
  • Enemies with yellow bar in public spaces (1 renowned)
  • Standard Public Events (2 Renowned)
  • Heroic Public Events (3 Renown)

You can also gain 1 additional renown point per activity while wearing a full set of faction armor.

The higher the Renown, the more tokens you will earn for running Lost Sectors. The buff will stack a total of five times, giving you a total of 10 tokens for completing the Lost Sector (you’ll also receive an additional 15 as part of a daily challenge).

There is a risk reward, however, as dying will reduce Renown by one level. Meanwhile, fast travel will eliminate it entirely. Furthermore, the higher the profit, the difficulty will increase in the following ways:

  • Health regeneration is reduced, although enemies have a chance to drop health orbs.
  • The player’s damage is reduced.
  • Damage taken increases
  • The player’s agility decreases.

Completing a Lost Sector, regardless of your Renown, will reset it to zero, so you’ll have to rebuild it again before taking on another Lost Sector and earning additional rewards.

Apparently the best way to play it is to do that week’s Flashpoint, raise your Renown to maximum, and then take a break to tackle the Lost Sectors. Once the Milestone is completed, you can take your activities to other planets.

Ideally, you’d also play with a friend: taking on a Lost Sector with a fully developed Renown alone can be particularly difficult, so it’s recommended to do it in a Fireteam.

As a small cosmetic bonus, you’ll also be able to display your chosen faction when viewing it in third person, as seen above. It’s entirely up to you whether you decide to pit a rival faction’s Guardians against them!

How else do you level up your faction?

In addition to the Renown system, there are several ways to earn Tokens and rewards. You can do it from the following activities:

Remember that you can level up your faction until the weekly reset.

The Season of the Depths is here along with the Into the Depths quest. You can also know how to go fishing! Don’t forget to keep an eye on the Lost Sector and King’s Fall challenge rotation schedule!

Which faction is better to choose between Dead Orbit, Future War Cult and New Monarchy?

As with Pokémon Go’s three teams, there is no right or wrong faction choice offered. Although their individual weapon rewards are unique, they all have a variety of the same types of weapons and equipment that you can also receive from faction rewards.

Perhaps the most compelling reason is which gear appeals most to you, so it’s worth taking a look at each faction’s range of products, which are as follows:

dead orbit

Includes the Otherworldly Eye ornament and the Graviton Lance catalyst.

Cult of future war

Includes Knucklehead radar ornament and Sunshot catalytic converter.

new monarchy

Includes Alpha Lupi shield ornament and sweet business catalyst.

Other possible considerations include:

  • What are your friends or clanmates part of?
  • Who has won in previous rallies (Dead Orbit and New Monarchy have dominated so far, and Future War Cult finally won the most recent faction rally) to give you a better chance of success at getting the discounted “winning” item.
  • Your choice in the original Destiny

Or it could be one chosen at random. Ultimately, it’s a decision that shouldn’t keep you up at night; No matter which faction you choose, you’ll be able to purchase the “winning” weapon, as long as you have enough Glimmer saved up, and at the rate you earn it, it shouldn’t be too difficult.
