Destiny 2 Harbinger mission explained: All feather locations and how to start the Bird of Prey quest explained

Destiny 2’s Harbinger is a quest introduced in January 2021, which requires you to have unlocked Hand Cannon Hawkmoon, first available to Season of the Hunt pass holders in late 2020.

Similar to Outbreak Perfected’s Whisper of the Worm and Zero Hour exotic missions, this is a challenging mission with several difficult combat encounters and jumping puzzles.

Completing it grants new rolls to Hawkmoon, a first for an exotic weapon, as well as the Catalyst to power it up even further. Between this and earning Feathers of Light, there are multiple incentives to run the Harbinger mission again in the coming weeks.

How to start the Harbinger mission in Destiny 2

First, before you can enter the Harbinger quest, you must have obtained Hawkmoon, which in turn requires access to the Season of the Hunt.

How to start the Harbinger mission in Destiny 2

The Harbinger quest is part of the Bird of Prey quest, which can be picked up from Crow in Tangled Shore; You will find it at the bottom of your seller’s screen.

Now visit the Trostland fast travel point in the ZED. From here, go straight past the church to a building on the corner and jump to the second floor. (If you’re having trouble finding the exact location, the video embedded above shows a complete tour.)

In the corner there is a “fireplace” panel. With the Hawkmoon equipped, you can shoot the panel several times and remove it, revealing a hidden passage. (If it’s already exposed, another player has done the job for you.)

The Harbinger mission can be activated right inside.

How Destiny 2’s Harbinger mission works and how to complete the opening dam jumping puzzle

The Harbinger mission works similarly to Outbreak Perfected’s Whisper of the Worm and Zero Hour, offering a challenging mix of jumping puzzles and combat encounters. The recommended power is 1270, which means that ideally you should have reached maximum Pinnacle level and/or significantly leveled your artifact.

Unlike those missions, there is no timer, allowing you to take your time with each step. Although there is no matchmaking, you can also have a fire team.

In addition to the triumphs for completing flawlessly, alone and quickly, the main rewards for completing the Harbinger mission are:

  • Additional Hawkmoons with random spins (two for the first completion)
  • Get the Hawkmoon Catalyst
  • Collect Feathers of Light (by completing bosses and collectibles during the quest) to advance the Bird of Prey quest to the Return to the Falcon of Light step and earn the Radiant Accipiter exotic ship.

The mission itself consists of a series of combat encounters and jumping puzzles. To begin the first encounter, you will need to complete a dam jumping puzzle, as shown in the video below:

From there, it is highly recommended that you have a high-level team with you to complete the subsequent encounters. If you’re having trouble finding the emissaries, this map from Nuclearfish108 on reddit is very helpful.

Although challenging, it is possible to complete it flawlessly and solo, as shown by Esoterickk on YouTube, which is also a recommended watch if you want some tips from each encounter:

Week 1 Feather Locations in Destiny 2’s Harbinger Mission

As soon as you earn additional Hawkmoons and Hawkmoon Catalyst, an additional objective is to collect Feathers of Light, which will help you progress the Bird of Prey quest and allow you to obtain the Radiant Accipiter exotic ship.

Feathers are obtained by completing the boss, as well as by finding five feather locations throughout the encounter. Additionally, the location of the feathers changes week to week.

Here they are for Week 1:

1. During the ‘Hunt the Emissaries’ step, an Emissary will be in a blue-tinted room. The pen is located up a hallway and in the middle of the room.

2. During the ‘Hunt the Emissaries’ step, you must travel through a tall circular room with rusty platforms around the edge. Jump to the upper platform to find a feather.

3. During the ‘Hunt the Emissaries’ step, in the room across from the Witch’s Emissary, there is a red cage in the corner with a feather inside. To open it and access the pen, press the panel on the wall just to the side.

(You will also get seven feathers from the chest after completing the Survival encounter.)

4. After the Survive encounter, during the Reach the Shard step and not long before the final encounter, there is a ledge with a pipe embedded in the floor and a rusty walkway above. The pen is under a rock.

5. Just before the boss room there is a cliff that shoots out to the right. Follow it to find a feather at the end.

Finally, you’ll earn 10 feathers for completing the final encounter (in addition to other rewards).

(Please note that at launch, the Triumph to collect all the feathers is buggy, so know that once you’ve found the previous five, you’ll be all set.)

Week 2 Feather Locations in Destiny 2’s Harbinger Mission

Feather locations will be different from week to week; You know you’re in Week 2, as you’ll see a feather through some bars after the prey jumping puzzle and before the Emissary is in the main “hall.”

Here’s where to find the Week 2 feather locations:

1. To get the feather behind the bars you see at the beginning, defeat the Emissary in the red turbine room. There is a door you can go through to the other side that leads to the dead end with this feather.

2. When you find the Emissaries, you’ll find them in rooms on either side of the tall circular room with rusty platforms (see Feather location 2 from Week 1 to see what we mean). In the room with the two boxes on a central shelf, the feather will be on top of one of these boxes.

3. When you find the Emissaries, you’ll find them in the rooms on either side of the tall circular room with rusty platforms (see Feather location 2 from Week 1 to see what we mean). In the slightly green-lit room with the silo and pipe next to the wall, look for the 6-tier print in the corner next to the door. The pen will be on top of a box.

4. After the Survive encounter there is a platforming section for the Reach the Shard objective. As soon as you appear in the valley, jump back to the higher ledge above you and jump up and onto a cliff. There is an enemy here, as well as a feather location.

5. In the last room with the boss, go behind the waterfall at the back to find the feather.

(Please note that at launch, the Triumph to collect all the feathers is buggy, so know that once you’ve found the previous five, you’ll be all set.)

Week 3 Feather Locations in Destiny 2’s Harbinger Mission

Feather locations will be different from week to week; You know you are in Week 3, since in the Emissary room with the red cage in the corner, you must go to the next room (where the Emissary will be) to find the feather in a box.

Here are the week 3 plume locations for the Harbinger mission:

1. In the blue-tinted room with the Witch Emissary, go through the upper exit into the dark corridor. Follow it to the dead end, where you will find the location of the feathers. (Although this specific location is not shown in the image, in the second image below, go in that direction all the way.)

2. This feather is found in Raven’s room. To find it, he defeats the Knight Emissary in the large red “rusty” room.

In this same room, climb the ledges to the upper floor and shoot through the force field at the entrance. Turn right down this hallway and you will be in the room at the end.

3. You’ll find this in the final Emissary location, specifically in the room next to the red cage in the corner (which contained a feather in Week 1). This week’s quill is in a box in the same room as the Emissary.

4. After the Survival encounter there is a jump section to the final encounter. Along the way, you’ll come to a room with a pipe on the far left wall. Make sure you jump towards it and into the passage in the corner. Continue this linear route to another pipe suspended in the middle of a cavern.

Follow that to a larger red pipe. At the end of this, and before jumping to the door above, you’ll see the feather glowing on a ledge to the right.

5. After Pen 4, continue along this route, through the door next to the ledge with the pen, until you reach a corridor with a train track on the ground. When stopped, the boom is to the right.

(Please note that at launch, the Triumph to collect all the feathers is buggy, so know that once you’ve found the previous five, you’ll be all set.)

Return to the Falcon of Light route to complete the final step of the Bird of Prey quest explained

Once you have 100 feathers (this will take you three weeks total, finding all available feathers in three Harbinger runs on a single character), you will have the final step of the Bird of Prey quest: Return to the Falcon of Light.

The video below will show the full route from start to finish, or follow the text below to find out where to go:

Destiny 2: Return to the Falcon of Light route (final step of the Bird of Prey quest)

To find the start of the Return to the Falcon of Light route, return to the building in the EDZ patrol space where you discovered the Harbinger mission. Instead of going through the wall on the middle floor, jump to the upper floor.

Now follow the path until it opens at the dam. Along the wall is a new route you can take, through a pipe.

Continue, defeating enemies as you go (you can do all of this alone, you don’t need a fireteam) to the same boss room as the “Survive” encounter.

Here, take the upper ledges to the force field at the entrance and press the “Contact Traveler” message.

Wait here for a few moments until it disappears (for us, we jumped over a few ledges and then backtracked, but I suspect just waiting here will work too). Continue, following the on-screen marker, to find a room with the ship. Wait until the Falcon appears, then interact with it, ending the mission and adding that same ship, the Radiant Accipiter, to your inventory.

All ready! You can still continue repeating the Harbinger quest each week, with additional completions rewarding you with a Pinnacle gear drop and another Hawkmoon roll.
